It's Gus Van Sant. There's not much I can do. Although it could be a lot better, still has the amazing Van Sant signature. And Michael Pitt is simply brilliant.

This is a tough one to sit through. This is basically a non-narrative, minimalist (plot, dialogue) piece about a burned out, lonely, and mentally isolated rock musician named Blake, and the last few days he spends alive before dying in a very ambiguous manner. The film is only very loosely based upon/inspired by Kurt Cobain, and what his last few days very may have been like. The pacing of this film is extremely slow, and very deliberate, Having a slow pace makes the film seem far longer than 96 minutes and a chore to sit through, and while that is true, it is also a good thing. The audience is forced to sit through the wandering, dull, random and basically pointless activities like laying around, walking around, mumbling to oneself, and doing nothing really in particular. This is a tedious film that's not for everyone, but iit was urposefully made this way. It's an indie/arthouse film, not a Michael Bay blockbuster. It's hard to relate to Blake persobnality, but not his experience and the pain, loneliness, despairity he feels. I applaud Van Sant for being bold enough to make this kind of movie just for the sake of making it. For me, the best parts come from the technical end (directing, editing, acting, camera work and music). This is not a fun or pleasant experience, but it's one that should be experienced at least once.

So many critics (some whom I respect) absolutely fawned over this "Look at me! I'm sooooooo artsy" Film... Not me, and believe me I got it, I just thought it was really awful... To paraphrase the late great George Carlin, This film was "like watching lies f*ck!"

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I'm not interested in Cobain (I don't even know how to spell his name), but I really enjoy the strange atmosphere that Van Sant creates. Appropriately weird and disturbing.

I found it excruciatingly painful to watch, nothing happens, extremely slow paced, we get it the guy is lonely, depressed. Pitt mumbles his lines to a point where he is unable to communicate with the audience, the whole film feels like it is superior to everything else..it is not. I do appreciate what van sant is trying to do it just doesn't work.

This quiet, unsettling character study demands a lot of the audience and it's about as subtle as films get. Having said that, it is very clear that none of the directorial decisions are made without strong intent. Van Sant's abstract, minimalist approach to the story is haunting and effective, providing us with an unforgettably powerful depiction of silent degradation as opposed to a forcefully emotional presentation. The stylistic nature works beautifully as an illustration of loneliness, but it is Michael Pitt's chillingly convincing work on the focal character that brings it all together so well. This is one of his finest performances; nuanced, complex and textured. It is rare that a story can say so much without directly saying anything. This film has developed into one of my all-time favorites.

An incredible film about a rock star whose life and career is reminiscent to that of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain's. Michael Pitt does an amazing job playing Blake. A must-see film.

nothing really happens in this movie. it's one of those films that has a five page script. the cinematography is nice in a couple of places, but space odyssey this is not. why make a false "story" about the demise of a rock star when the real life case is so much more compelling? i would have rated it even lower had i not noticed all the symbolism put into the backgrounds of the shots, and appreciated the time splicing and other directorial techniques.

A interesting take on Kurt Cobain, who's band Nirvana, I don't like but it really shows so sickened he is with the music industry but the problem with post Good Will Hunting Gus Van Sant is he sort of has broom stuck up his ass so he thinks his films are terribly important and makes them very pretentious

i was hugely disappointed with this, it was too silent for a non-silent movie. it did have its moment such as the singing of the velvet underground but it was too hyped and didnt live up to it. did anyone see the ghost climbing the stairs at the end?

Imagine being in a film class and you have one idiot who waited until the last minute to film his project. So right before school he films his self for 2 hours sitting in a room and made some some bull sh*t about how it's art and not lazy or stupid. I've just explained a slightly better version of Last Days to you.

Gus Van Sant's bold directorial choices in this faux-biopic of Kurt Cobain are totally ineffective and useless at drawing in an audience or telling the story of this rock star. What the intended affect this film is supposed to have on an audience one can only imagine, but whatever was intended is either a waste of our time, or poorly executed.

One of the most boring movie that I have ever sat threw. While I love Kurt Cobain and Nirvana, this movie just sucked a big one. This movie is about Kurt...but it isn't...the lead character is called "Blake" the coincidences are just too much of a tease for a Nirvana fan like myself.

This movie is so artsy it makes me sick, long drawn out scenes that make no logical sense, hardly any spoken dialogue, only Kurt...oh sorry "Blake" mubling to himself like a madman. Hell, it even has a gay scene, where two guys go off to their bedrooom to make out and undress eachother...you know when a movie is trying to be open minded and arty when?!

Honestly the highlight of this movie is the end where, surpise, suprise he kills himself (oops I gave away the ending, silly me). To sit though the entire movie is painful and a total chore. If you want to watch Micheal Pitt pour some corn flakes into a bowl and add milk (yes that is an actual scene...that is drawn out for 10 minutes) then see this crappy movie.

Gus van sant rinses and repeats his trend of what he did in Gerry and Elephant only this time, in this film, it's annoyingly bad.

This movie bored the shit out of me. Hardly any dialogue. Too artsy. If you wanna make a movie about Cobain, make a movie about Cobain. Christ.

Loosely based on Kurt Cobain's 'last days'. Hard to enjoy, but - in the condition of fan of both Van Sant and Cobain - even harder not to. But let's face it, this was not made to be 'ikable'. Made it immediately into the list of the most difficult films I've ever watched, although, with a second viewing, some aspects became more clear and some artistic aspects less unattainable. Almost no dialogue at all, very very slow, and featuring one of the greatest performances of Michael Pitt's short career. On the other hand, visually stunning and beautiful cinematography and a pure lesson of filmmaking (another) by Van Sant. A strange, but somehow beautiful film.

I don't understand the point of making this movie, although it was brought to us by the man who directed a carbon copy of Psycho. The limited artistic appeal is eclipsed by its boringness and the cliched portrayal of Kurt.

I tougt it would be better.Gus Van Sant could have exploited more of the solitude and depression of the character.Still, there re some great scenes, like the one wich he plays "Death to Birth"

Detective: This is eventually gonna implode. Completely crystallize and implode.

NOT THAT BAD IF WE CONSIDER THAT THIS MOVIE IS JUST A WORK OF FICTION AND IT'S ONLY INSPIRED BY LAST DAYS OF KURT COBAIN

Appreciating Van Sant's previous movies and sharing an interest for anything related to Nirvana I was expecting a lot. Finally that was just about how lost Cobain was (no really?!), but no analysis whatsoever. Maybe I was disappointed to see Cobain portrayed like a ridiculous tramp more than a broken genius

This was awful. Don't see it unless you like boring, drawn out scenes and very little plot with no entertainment. See it if you like those things.
