Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"It's surefire entertainment: loopy and predictable, but tremendously likable."
‑ G. Allen Johnson, San Francisco Chronicle
"It sounds like gay porn, but it's actually a delightful romantic comedy from Germany."
‑ Melissa Levine, Village Voice
"a by-the-book redemption-through-sports story with a few laughs, a few clichés, and those few annoying stereotypes that could have easily been omitted"
‑ Don Willmott, Filmcritic.com
"This jubilant, exhilarating film works like a wonder tonic. It's as captivating as they come, by its very definition a big, fat, fantastic crowd pleaser."
‑ Randy Shulman, Metro Weekly (Washington, DC)
"A by-the-numbers ensemble dramedy that hits every underdog and gay-fish- out-of-water cliche on the nose."
‑ Dennis Harvey, Variety
"With commendable literalness, the makers of the German soccer comedy Guys and Balls have settled on a title as cheerfully unsubtle as every one of the film's jokes."
‑ Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times
"If there's a gay cliche who doesn't flounce through this feel-good German comedy, he must have been out of town when the casting call went out, but its fundamental good nature is tough to resist."
‑ Maitland McDonagh, TV Guide's Movie Guide
"The sexuality of the protagonists is just another plot twist in this mildly funny sports comedy that never seems to accept its characters as people rather than cliches."
‑ Boyd van Hoeij, european-films.net
"Hormann provides a light enough touch to make the proceedings palatable, if not quite enjoyable."
‑ Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter
"Though it does elicit some laughs, we've seen this story of over-achieving underdogs too many times."
‑ Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News
"Having seen Wet Hot American Summer, it's impossible to take any film seriously that follows the formula 'lovable band of misfits undergoes wacky training montage to come back and beat the evil team.'"
‑ Brian D. Schiller, Slant Magazine
