  this was a decent watch because its seagal and im a sucker for that guy. really, this was a silly movie that shows how far seagal has fallen since he was making average movies.

  Pitiful acting, even for a later Seagal flick. What happened to the action in his films, especially the actual hand-to-hand fighting? They actually made a sequel to this one and even though that one stars Bill Goldberg in it, it still can't be as bad as this piece of shit.

You just knew he would.... <i>Half Past Dead</i> is a film that suffers from atrocious acting. Ja Rule is one of the most laughable actors in Hollywood. He's unconvincing as a hard-ass tough guy standing at a measly 5'7" 150lbs. One of the most comical attempts at a serious standoff was in the beginning of the film when Ja Rule and his gang are confronted by a single female FBI agent. What ensues is a ridiculous exchange of words that included the line "Today looks like a great day to die" and then followed by an asinine shoot off. It's a shame that this film centers around two awful actors (Ja Rule and Seagal) because the plot wasn't half bad. It was intriguing, yet predictable. Morris Chestnut makes an incredibly convincing and chilling bad guy. And Nia Pebbles looked smoking hot for a lady in her 40's. <i>Half Past Dead</i> has pretty spectacular action, full of gun fights and martial arts. But overall, it's just a really really lame flick. With better leads than an overrated rapper and a fat black belt fighter, this could've been a good popcorn flick.

  I always enjoyed Seagals abilitys in Martial-arts more then acting, as well as Ja Rules ability too rap over acting - but other then that, it wasnt TOO bad. It's worth seeing, and maybe even buying - but, not a favorite.

  A round of applause for the person responsible for that title. No, seriously. It's poetry. More brainless thuggery from the tubbiest martial artist this side of Sammo Hung. It's absolute crap, of course, but Nia Peeples looks great in it!

  Now I had no intention of going into this since there's plenty of other movies on my list that actually deserve my time, but I still saw this. This is one of Steven Seagal better movies believe it or not, which is not saying much. Half Past Dead is about Steven Seagal as an undercover agent on a island trying to save a senator on New Alcatraz, and that's the whole movie right there. I went into this with low expectations, we're talking about really low here, around the same expectations I would have if I were to watch a horror movie about killer rabbits and it still failed. The movie biggest problem is that there's no plot, no characterization, nothing interesting ever happens, and nearly everything about the plot is pointless. Wait a minute, we are a on island, taken over by bad people holding hostages, and we got the FBI trying to stop them, Michael Bay's The Rock? Are you kidding me, you borrowed from a good action movie and somehow not improve on the idea. So instead of the very cool Sean Connery killing people and cracking jokes, we get the very slow moving Steven Seagal without the fun. And instead of having Nicolas Cage being an important asset to the mission, we're stuck with Ja Rule who character was completely pointless and added a new level hilarity in the dramatic scenes. I would keep going about the plot, except that I already told you everything important that happened in the first sentence and everything is not important. The acting is bad, this is a Seagal movie we're talking about. There's a reason why Jean Claude Van Damme has a bigger fanbase than Seagal, sure he's a bad actor, but the enjoyable kind of bad actor who gives ridiculous facial expression and can give a good dramatic performance. Whereas Steven Seagal is simply a bad actor, it's not fun watching him and please don't ever have Seagal do drama and saying slang words ever again. Now for the first time possibly recorded in any movie, Steven Seagal actually gets hit, but his fight scenes are still pretty awful. The only thing worst than Seagal dramatic acting are the other actors. They almost make Seagal watchable, which you know takes consorted effort if you're making Seagal almost look good. Th rap music is completely unnecessary for a action movie, and also if the bad guys jumped from a plane at daytime, why did they barely reached land in night time. Makes no sense, just like how Steven Seagal keeps making movies. Now I were to replace Steven Seagal and put someone more entertaining, like say, Pee Wee Herman you would have better movie and better dramatic acting. Think about it, would you rather see Steven Seagal's Half Past Dead or Pee Wee Herman's Half Past Dead, exactly. Half Past Dead is a bad movie with no plot and not even watchable with your brain off. Simply go see Michael's Bay The Rock which does this plot better and avoid this Seagal film.

It was fast paced and fun.lots of action,a few fight scenes that were adequate,not great but not horrible.lots of gun battles.there were some funny moment,some of which might have been unintentional,but some were intentional.I don't think this was trying too hard to be a serious movie.sometimes you just need to shut off your brain for awhile and allow yourself to be entertained.But you have to been in the mood. If you're not,you won't enjoy it

  This action flick has lengths to obscure Steven Seagal's bulk. Steven Seagal and Ja Rule worked good together. No complex story lines just pure action and some cheesey lines.

  Half Past Dead has Steven Segal as an undercover agent masquerading as a bad-ass criminal type in Alcatraz when it just so happens that a genuine gang of semi-pathological villains break in, to free the guy on Death Row (Rap stars Ja Rule) who holds the key to the whereabouts of £200million dollars in gold bars. Apart from our hero looking woefully out of shape, the prison they are in is one of those odd slammers where convicts can actually get in fist fights with guards and suffer no repercussions.
