Plot: Michael Myers escapes from the sanitarium, and returns to Haddonfield, Illinois to search for his only living relative.
Myers does what? Okay. Stupid stuff happens. More stupid and not scary stuff happens. It ends. Thank goodness.
Clearly not the worst film in the Halloween series. But not the best, either. There is some atmosphere and it's well-shot and all that. But the most important thing to let you know is that it's still a typical 1980's teen horror film. Which means the acting is not very good, there's not much going on in the story telling department, it's the late '80s so there's not much in the gore department, and it's cliched. It does a few things right, but don't listen to all the people who cry this is a masterpiece. It's not. Also of relevance, it changes the signature style of the series, making it much more gritty and less surreal and shadowy.
Ten years after his night of terror, Michael Myers returns to Haddonfield to continue his rampage. Donald Pleasence returns as Dr. Loomis, and follows Michael in attempt to warn the town that the threat they thought died a decade earlier, is still very much alive and on his way. A power blackout add the shadows that Michael hides in, as he stalks the young niece he didn't realize he had. The movie was made in the 80's when gore was all the rage. The filmmakers chose to go with the John Carpenter method of style over blood. Showing Michael methodical nature of observing his prey, waiting for the opportune moment to strike. The majority of the supporting characters are very cookie-cutter, and easily despatched. But Ellie Cornell makes for a very convincing, everyday babysitter in the tradition of Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode. In her film debut, Danielle Harris plays the little girl suffering the loss of her parents, and tormented by dreams of "The Nightmare Man", who is in fact her uncle, Michael Myers. The two actresses have good chemistry together as foster sisters, and evolve from a sense of sibling rivalry, to genuine caring and defending of each other. Good tension, scares, and perhaps the most memorable ending since the original.
i think the series picked up some steam with parts 4 and 5. not classics but better than most horror movies
Many call this one the best of the sequels, and for the most part they are right. Halloween 4 returned to the grounds that made the first one so great. Even though Jamie Lee Curtis was gone, Donald Pleasence returned as Loomis and really outdid himself. Watch for the amazing opening title sequence too!
