  What began as a great rebirth of the Halloween series in The Return of Michael Myers turns quickly into mediocrity with the fifth entry. Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers throws all of the wonderful character study out the window established in the previous film and just aims straight on for pure terror only, and ultimately misses its mark. For starters, the overall style of the film is just way too busy. Odd camera angles and over-the-top performances don't really suit this series and they definitely don't work in this film. The score also sounds too much like a retread of the original score, making it hollow and uninteresting. From this point on, the Halloween series declines and just can't manage to rise to the occasion ever again.

  Fifth entry in the Halloween franchise is an interesting direction for the series. Halloween 5 offers a darker take on the tale. It's pretty much more of the same as before, but it does have a few more things going for it. To say the least, the film has a few more creepy scenes added in the mix. Halloween is another solid sequel but at times it's pretty weak, but it does have a lot of redeeming qualities only diehard Halloween fans would love. The film does possess a very atmosphere, which adds so much to the overall film. As far as sequels are concerned, this fifth entry is a fine installment that though flawed, manages to delivers some good, effective jolts. But like I previously stated, this film does have a few weak moments, but overall, the film is pretty solid, and delivers something that the fans will enjoy. There have been a few bad sequels, but this fifth entry is not one of them. Die-Hard fans will be pleased with this one. I enjoyed the dark, creepy atmosphere. The acting here was pretty good as well, and the story was pretty well constructed as well. Usually sequels lose their intensity, but with this fifth entry, the filmmakers have made one of the better installments in the series, and considering that this is the fifth film, that says something. Halloween F is a good follow-up to the fourth entry in the franchise. A good entry, but not the best.

  Dr. Samuel Loomis: I prayed that he would burn in hell. But in my heart, I knew that hell would not have him. "MIchael Lives, and This TIme They're Ready." I can't say that I hated Halloween 5: The Reveng of Michael Myers, but the extent to which I cared went down exponetially. It seemsto have lost that appeal numbers 1,2 and 4 had. Still, it's a fairly decent slasher and again, a somewhat fun time. SLasher franchises can only go on so long before they start to become tiresome and halfway through this one I had become almost tuned out to what was going on on the screen. I watched, but I really didn't care all that much. The movie is probably the second most ridiculous in the franchise, only behind Season of the Witch. THe mind connection between Michael and Jamie is stupid and poorly done. The only thing that really kept me watching and will make me watch the last couple in this series was my respect for the first couple and number four. I really enjoyed those three, so I thought I would give this a chance. I'm somewhat glad I did because I did like aspects of it, such as the barn scenewhere we are presented with 2 or 3 false scares. There have been worse slashers, but this is definitely the weakest SLASHER in the series. Don't evenask what number three was. It was a good franchise while it lasted.

  Part 5 is the worse of the series. Not that it's a horrible movie, it's just Myers at his weakest moment. They try so hard to mix comedy with this one but it comes off very cheesy. We have these two idiot cops in this one that, when they make mistakes, this dumb little circus song starts playing. It's cheesy. Part 5 feels like a remake of part 4 done wrong. The atmosphere in this is done all wrong too. It lacks that "Halloween-y" feel to it. Nothing seems as dark and moody. I think it was bad lighting but it just didn't set the right mood. It plays like an unnecessary sequel. But it still has to ability to be entertaining. There are many memorable scenes that save it from being a complete failure. The death scenes are very bloody in this one, (again: not gory like it's previous entries) just bloody. As the series goes on the death scenes become more and more over the top. Danielle Harris returns as Jamie once more and so the chase begins. It's clear now that Michael Myers is completely unstoppable. The ending in this one is very silly, but it does leave for an opening which is further explained in part 6. The Revenge of Michael Myers could easily be skipped, but for horror fans it shouldn't be ignored.   Well I guess that Halloween 4 wasn't just a one hit wonder. Cause this was good shit. It's not like any other horror movie with the stupid stereotypical teens. The movie is built on logic. Michael seems real...cause we get to see how he works....he's a human for god's sake. The negative things about the movie is that it doesn't work by itself. It needs the 4 and the 6. But that's how they make the money ($). And there was a couple of holes in the story....like the begining....Is he like laying at the old mans table for a whole year?...does the old man think he's alive or dead?...is he feeding him?...Not clear enough. And you can't help but pity Dr. Loomis...he tries so hard without results. And then there's this boots-fella....who is this motherfucker? I never though I would say this...but Michael kicks Freddy and Jasons asses any day of the week. We all know Michael is my new best friend...but the great acting of Danielle Harris makes her a close runner up. That's all I have to say...buy the merchendise

There were a lot of great tension filled killings, something that the last was missing. Loomis got even more diabolical in this, using poor Jamie as bait. It's a fun horror movie at heart and honors what the meaning of the franchise is.

  If you thought Halloween 4 was crap, wait until you see Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, a title so stupid it will make you light headed. Every movie is about his revenge. What's so special about this one? Other than being a piece of shit, I have no idea. It's one year since the events of Halloween 4 and after shooting Michael Myers into an abandoned mine the good people of Haddonfield are ready to go on with their lives. Halloween arrives and SURPRISE! Michael isn't dead because your idiotic Haddonfield police neglected to actually check the mine for a body, showing you how great a film this is going to be. Michael is after his niece Jamie (Danielle Harris) again, who is out of her freaking mind after stabbing her mother with scissors at the end of the previous installment. Her parents, showing their love and affection for their adopted daughter, decide that the best way for her to heal mentally is for her to be under the care of creepy, charbroiled Dr. Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence) because he is obviously a great children's psychiatric doctor. So the film goes through the entire chop-chop, OH! there's a cat bullshit for two hours with Johnny Cash walking around town, chain smoking and looking at murder scenes. There's some kind of psychic link and tattoos... hell, forget it. Halloween 5 is a turd. Donald Pleasence may have made the last installment tolerable, but even he can't save this lumbering, nut infested turd from bad writing, bad direction, and bad acting. You have to wonder if John Carpenter has seen any of these sequels. They just keep getting worse. It is full of laughs, though.

  This is where the Halloween films started to fly off the rails and the less said the better. Halloween 5 picks up exactly where Halloween 4 left off. Michael Myers was gunned down and fell into a well.He got out just in time before the police blew it up. He takes refuge with a hermit where he lies dormant in a coma for one year. Halloween, 1989. He awakens and is still after his niece, Jamie, who cannot speak and has a telepathic bond with him now. This movie is very weak on nearly all levels. There are no tense action scenes (except the car chase scene which was good), the acting by most of the cast is pitiful. the awful cop-theme "squeaks and whistles" is out of place in a Halloween movie, a main character is killed off in the first half hour for no real reason, Michael's mask looks terrible to say the least. The few plus sides here are the film has some good atmosphere and you have Donald Pleasence and Danielle Harris, both of them alone make the film watchable.

  Sure, they wasted their one chance to change the direction of the Halloween series (the right way). The year long coma is BS, yes, indeed. Sure, the psychic connection between Jamie and Michael is a little goofy, ill-explained, beyond the scope of a Halloween movie, and exists for no real reason, and yes, other people wearing a mask similar to Michael and pretending to be Michael is getting old (not to mention predictable.) The mask doesn't resemble any of the previous masks really, the Myers house had an inexplicable make-over . . . I could keep these complaints rolling for some time (don't even get me started on the man in black), but despite all my reasons to not like this film . . . I prefer it over #4. I found Halloween 5 to be strangely fun, which horror tends to be when you stop caring for the cast. While I like Danielle Harris and Donald Pleasance in the leads, most of the supporting characters I didn't really like at all, so when Myers starts the party rolling I'm rooting for team Thorn. And this time around, Miky proves he has a dark sense of humor. I especially like his choice in masks in Halloween 5 . . . But is it scary? No, but there are a few genuine intense moments towards the end as Michael inevitably runs out of victims and closes in on the stars. I liked all the chases involving Danielle Harris and confrontations between Donald Pleasence and evil personified . . . even if said confrontations are on the silly side. Speaking of Harris, despite her character not being able to talk in the script, she manages to rise far above the material and actually pull it off. Or in other words, while her character was written by a hack and sloppily thrown together, she works wonders with the very little she's given. It makes me really wish she got writing worthy of her performance, but like a professional, she makes the best of it . . . and to think the studio wouldn't let her reprise her role after this? A slap to the face after an insult . . . oy. I remember reading on the VHS box of Halloween 5 the exclamation, `Michael finally unmasked!' And couldn't help but chuckle as I recalled him being mask-less at least once in every Myers-inclusive Halloween until this film. Granted, this is the first time he, himself, takes it off. Oh well. As for the film's ending, I can't forgive because it lead to the atrocity known as Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers which felt Halloween 5 was extremely flawed but still fun . . . so it set out to make a sequel that was all flaw and no fun . . . or something.

  Terrible Halloween movie! It tried to go for the same feel as Halloween IV, but was probably made too hastily. It had too many annoying elements in it, like the little mute girl Jamie having a psychic connection to her uncle Michael, the two bumbling police officers, little stuttering Billy, Michael's mask with the long nose, the Meyer's house gothic makeover, Loomis' intricate trap for Michael, Jamie as bait, the pre-mature death of a good character and the squealy new lead girl Tina. Some sequences I enjoyed however was the laundry room chase, the car chasing Jamie through the forest, and the famous laundry chute escape which was perfectly shot. The over-the-top shock ending has to be seen to be believed.

  It's remarkable that merely a year after the success of "Halloween 4", the series could have been plunged to the depths on view here. With it's ugly aesthetic and nasty tone, this fifth film anticipates the direction Rob Zombie would take the reboot of the franchise almost twenty years later. This is a horrid film in every sense of the word and introduced new elements which ultimately led to derision and disillusion among fans. Though the fourth movie featured no involvement from John Carpenter, it did for the most part feel like a "Halloween" film. It's follow-up has more in common with the sleazy imitations of Carpenter's classic. The film kicks off with a flashback to the previous film's climax but presents us with the twist of Myers surviving and being swept down a river. Bizarrely he's taken in by a hermit (and his parrot) who seems happy to allow him sleep for a year in his hut. Myers wakes on Halloween Eve a year later, kills the hermit, and sets off back to his home town. Meanwhile, his niece (Harris) is in a children's institution following the attack on her step-mother, which it seems the victim survived. The psychic bond hinted at in "Halloween 4" is played up to cheesy levels now with Harris' physically feeling her Uncle's actions. Dr. Loomis is overseeing the young girl and his treatment of her makes him a lot scarier than Myers. This movie has a ridiculous amount of problems. By placing Harris in the "final girl" role the film takes on a nasty undercurrent. While we can all enjoy watching teenagers stalked and slashed, it's not much fun seeing a child discover the corpses of her loved ones as her Uncle tries to stab her with a butcher knife. Cornell was a likable presence and the film would have been better had she been the central figure rather than killed off at the film's outset. Alan Howarth's score is terrible compared to his previous work and reaches a new low with the "Three Stooges" style theme he plays over a pair of bungling cops. Predictably, the movie was a flop, both commercially and critically, and the series would lie dormant for the next six years.

The only truly scary aspect of this film is the thought of having to sit through it again sometime during my lifetime!

  Halloween 5 at least tries to add something to the series but in doing so lessens the impact of Halloween 4's ending. The fourth one, for those you don't know, ends with Michael's niece stabbing her mother to death with a pair of scissors while wearing a clown mask (reminiscent of Myers own slaying of his sister) and Donald Pleasence hollering "No!" as he realizes he's lost the young girl and given birth to a new boogeyman. Halloween 5 lessens this significantly by saying she did not kill her mother (just cut her I guess) and also that she was "possessed" by Myers spirit and so did not even do the violent act herself. Yawn! The psychic link that Myers and his niece now seem to possess is slightly interesting and the only thing that kept the film bearable to watch.

  Unnecessary though they undoubtedly were, the previous <i>Halloween</i> sequels at least had the courtesy of being well made and acted. Unfortunately this instalment feels rushed, overly loud & incoherent and features terrible performances from almost everyone (even Donald Pleasance isn't quite his usual presence, though to be fair he's not given much to work with). The story - which is credited to five people - is badly developed and doesn't feel like a Halloween film at all. Horny teens, a villain wielding whatever weapon is to hand and talk of skinny dipping probably brings a different horror franchise to mind, and throw in Jamie's apparent psychic abilities (a plot-thread which, believe it or not, Rob Zombie put to better use in his <i>Halloween II</i>) and the whole thing feels schizophrenic to say the least. Gone are the steady, slow shots, plays on shadow, and above all the suspense. There is one very strong sequence in a laundry chute, which rivals the rooftop sequence from <i>4</i>, but overall, <i>Halloween 5</i> is a mess.
