Picking up six years after the events of Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, this competently produced but ultimately disappointing sequel attempts to tie up the uneven horror series' loose ends with a less-than-convincing resolution. Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"Instead of sending up the current glut of serial-killer movies, the filmmakers trot out the old slasher tactics."
‑ John Hartl, Seattle Times
"Although the series has obviously run out of steam, the ending leaves the door open for Michael's return. Really, it's about time the masks were removed once and for and all."
‑ Stephen Holden, New York Times
"Every convention of the old slasher film is here, including some incredibly stupid motivation, hastily sketched characters and incomprehensible plot twists."
‑ John Wooley, Tulsa World
"Much maligned yet quite underrated..."
‑ David Nusair, Reel Film Reviews
"The film is so dark -- literally -- it's often hard to see what's going on."
‑ , TV Guide's Movie Guide
"Slicker than crude oil and just as unattractive."
‑ Derek Adams, Time Out
"'Enough of this Michael Myers B.S.!,' says a disgruntled Haddonfielder, as news spreads of the returning native son. Dream on."
‑ Jack Mathews, Los Angeles Times
"I'd say everybody associated with this film-from unrelenting series producer Moustapha Akkad on down-could do with a good checkup."
‑ Steve Newton, Georgia Straight
"Bogged down by ridiculous plotting involving warlocks, druids and Thorn that have no place in a movie about a villain who is supposed to be 'purely and simply evil.'"
‑ Dustin Putman, DustinPutman.com
"The revelation of the Man in Black and the film's attempt to explain the origin of Michael Myers were the only points of interest here."
‑ Chuck O'Leary, FulvueDrive-in.com
"Run-of-the-mill horror item is notable only for final appearance of the late Donald Pleasance"
‑ Daniel M. Kimmel, Variety
"Needless to say, the gore level is high and the scare level low -- although not as low as the intelligence level."
‑ James Berardinelli, ReelViews
"A film bereft or surprises, or even suspense, and seems to get off on creating vicious murders to compensate for lack of genuine terror."
‑ Felix Vasquez Jr., Cinema Crazed
"The series' nadir...nothing but a delivery system for murder and half-glimpses of naked women."
‑ Tim Brayton, Antagony & Ecstasy
"A return to form for the franchise....scares aplenty"
‑ Clint Morris, Moviehole
