    great story about sweet revenge!

Hannibal Rising starts well and is beautifully filmed but unfortunately it becomes a little slow, a little boring and slightly contrived towards the middle. There is a huge unexplained leap between innocent Hannibal and warped and crazy Hannibal, thus, not really explaining, or s...( read more)hould I say convincing us as to why he becomes the monster seen in Silence of the Lambs etc. A wasted opportunity! Rhys Ifans is truly annoying too!

Good. It was dark and gory. The story was smooth, though a little bit on the extreme for me. I was expecting a bit more humble, not the samurai wielding stuff I saw. Still, no major complaints about this one.

Gaspard Ulliel doeas a great job, and it's nice to see a new face. I enjoyed the movie, and I understand a lot more about Hannibal Lector from watching this movie.
  • October 23, 2009
I was sorely disappointed by this film. It's nothing like the other Hannibal films which are clever and well done. This is a gore filled excuse to try and attract people who want blood, guts and fighting into the Hannibal fan club. It is such a shame that what could have been the...( read more) most interesting installment was such a let down.

Liked it a lot. Not what I thought it would be at all.
  • October 18, 2009
So good. Seeing him in his younger years explains so much. I now understand why/when/how he became what he is. Gaspard Ulliel was the perfect Hannibal, can't see anyone else playing Hannibal in this movie.

Jedan od najboljih filmova koje sam gledala. Bez teksta sam!!!

F%$K this was better I expected Only the acting from the lead role (Gaspard Ulliel ) could have been better but at such a difficult character to play he did a masterful job of it. If you can get over the individualism of each of the three films this one tops the lot of being a ...( read more)field different. It has continual explantation of the provocation into a mind belonging to a... serial killer, a ruthless grusome cold blooded murderer who`s paying for his crimes in both 'silence of the lambs' and in 'red dragon'

The only other draw back, after the eighties smash hit thriller was made, is that he is relitivly easy/simple to apprehend/catch in the act, taking away the precision and calculating premeditation to his feasts. There was refference to this with a statement in Red Dragon at him during a conferrence with the partaking FBI agent to the likes of ? the law has an advantage over you Hannibal, It is not insane'. Well I reackon he has all of it (insanity) because in this chapter/installment of the story, it divulges the attrocities he has undergone during and after the World War II in both east and western european countries.

Intentionally gory to the last but not excessivly. Again, set quite appart from the other two.

Freakin' excellent, I highly recommend it for fans of the series.
  • September 21, 2009
the story was pretty thrill and it's a little bit psychological too
  • September 16, 2009
this movie was off the hook i just love Anthony Hopkins
  • September 14, 2009
Totally dissapointed and bored to tears. This film is unbelievably stupid at some parts. Believe me, I've had seriously crazy and surrealistic dreams but definitely a samurai Lecter appeared in none of them. The concept was totally unnecessary and ended up being plain boring and ...( read more)moronic. Gaspard Ulliel sucked. The introducing 20 minutes of the film made me think I was about to see something at least interesting, but I was deceived. The worst in the series. The only thing left is to make a film when her mother was giving her birth. Should have stopped in Red Dragon, considering that Hannibal was bad as well.

    33/100

    shouldnt have happened
  • September 5, 2009
a pretty idiot story, with some idiot actors and their idiot performances, and their characters even worse
final conclusion: i really wasted my precious time and my money with it

The movie is stupid, boring, TIRESOME.

It was great to see how it all started for Hannibal. I think Gaspard Ulliel played a believable young Lecter. His whole start being the death and the cannibalism of his younger sister by Nazi soldiers. It shows how his skills progressed after each victim that fell under his rage....( read more) I believe what set him off and made him more insane was the discovery that he to took part in the eating of his sister. A great movie in the life of young Hannibal Lecter.

not as good as the first i thought
  • August 26, 2009
    Stupid and pointless.
  • August 23, 2009
Poor character development, which far surpasses the plot or acting. This movie defines "bad sequel".
  • August 23, 2009
SO VERY GOOD..LOTS OF INFORMATION ON HOW CRAZY PEOPLES MINDS WORK..also get THE GRAYMAN
  • August 15, 2009
I can't promise that you'll enjoy this movie, nor can I guarantee that you won't feel the urge to walk out. However, I do advise you to give it a try.
  • August 15, 2009
I don't know exactly what it was, maybe the script, maybe the directing, but this movie wasn't just as great as the others. Of course, now, it's Ulliel versus Hopkins, which is not much of a fight, but then again, Ulliel had his sick twists too, so I can't tell exactly. Maybe the...( read more) fact that, after all, we all knew what was going to happen, and the tension just wasn't the same, plus the old revenge trick and some love interest threw in there. The character is much more complex than his past, but, oh well, it's still a good movie.
  • August 11, 2009
I wish I could give this movie less that 1/2 of a star. It was terrible. You should not be able to fall asleep in a movie and not miss anything at all. This is exactly what happened. Yeah, it explains his background and blah, blah, blah but jeez could you speed it up, and actuall...( read more)y have a good plot. What we really needed was Anthony Hopkins. That was all this movie needed just to make it the slightest bit better. Only a little bit but from there, there is nothing anyone could have done to save the movie. My rating is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE AND A WASTE OF MONEY!!!!!!
  • August 8, 2009
    The worst of Hannibal
  • August 7, 2009
wonderful back story of one of films scariest villians
  • August 7, 2009
I think I would rather stick to Silence of the Lambs.
  • August 2, 2009
This wasn't scary, this wasn't interesting, and this wasn't good. Despite good performances and a strong visual style, this film sucks.

A blast to the past for one of movies favorite anti-heroes,this tells the story of a young Lecter, and how he came about. The prequel to Red Dragon and fourth in the series, this is more hack and slash than mind bender. But we see the world that shaped him.One problem with these sequ...( read more)el prequel is you know the main guy is going to live.So there is never any fear of the "hero" dying in the movie.
  • July 31, 2009
ok, it could have been better but its the best of the serie since silence of the lambs.. the thing about that movie is : why trying to explain is behavior? does a serial killer really need a reason ? but why not afterall and the movie was not too bad...
  • July 27, 2009
Nice interpretation by the young Hannibal, but otherwise its pretty generic.

What a fucking piece of shit. The story behind how Hannibal started eating people and they came up with this? this movie is a prime example of when to leave well enuff alone...
  • July 8, 2009
Excellent. Even though I shouldn't, I think Hannibal Lector is one of the most compelling characters of modern storytelling and I loved this vision of his childhood and 'rise' to infamy. Brilliant film.
  • July 7, 2009
Oddly disappointing and disconnected to the Hannibal trilogy.
  • July 5, 2009
An excellent film, not as artistic as I wish it could have been, however Peter Webber did a hundred times better job than Did the past directors of the Hannibal franchise.
