Happy Accidents

Anthony Michael Hall, Bronson Dudley, Cara Buono, Dan Frazer, Holland Taylor

This unusual but strikingly affecting movie stars Marisa Tomei as Ruby, a young woman with a string of bad relationships behind her, who falls in love with a guy named Sam (Vincent D'Onofrio, Full Met...( read more  read more... )al Jacket, The Whole Wide World). Initially, Sam just seems quirky, but eventually he tells her his secret: he's a time traveler from 400 years in the future. Happy Accidents walks a delicate line between genres, never making it clear whether Sam is delusional or telling the truth until the end. The strange blend of genres (which plays like romantic comedy, not like science fiction) may make some viewers balk, but writer-director Brad Anderson (Next Stop Wonderland) has a gift for both revealing psychological insights and sensual moments--like when Sam explains principals of time travel by running his hands up Ruby's leg--that, combined with the superb cast, are constantly engaging and sincerely touching. --Bret Fetzer

I really loved this a lot. It made me feel like a kid again with the playful nature that makes you believe every word that a man from the future tells you. Although it's a silly concept, it never once insults your intelligence - it remains well constructed and charming until the ...( read more)credits come up on the screen.

Anderson wrote a really wonderful and clever script here, and he continues to be one of my favorite directors today. He's mastered psychological thrillers and romantic comedies (and even manages to connect themes between the two)... if that doesn't show diversity and imagination, I don't know what does.

The heart of the film is certainly the performances by Marisa Tomei and Vincent D'Onofrio. It's no suprise as they are both absolutely wonderful and consistent actors, and they were cast perfectly. Tomei is so charming that you cannot help but fall in love with her, and D'Onofrio is great at playing the "big sympathetic teddy bear" role (see: Full Metal Jacket, before the insanity of course).

Certainly a refreshing story to the always bland and predictable romantic comedy genre. It never falls apart and becomes sappy or forced, something about it seems so authentic.

If you want something quirky and sweet that'll make you smile without insulting your intelligence, there's not many films i've seen recently that i'd recommend over this.

I surprised myself by giving this a 4.5, but rating it any lower would just be denying myself how much I really did enjoy this. Sometimes all you can ask for in a film is entertainment value, and this sure was a blast to watch.

Time travel love story. Good acting. Kept me guessing. Can he save her from the accident the future records she had? Is he off his rocker? Is he using an unusual line to seduce women?

A romantic comedy... by the maker of "The Machinist"?! And indeed, this is a romantic comedy with some very unexpected sci-fi elements. Entertaining, although I was very disappointed by the ending.

It was low budget but it was beautiful. Plus, it had Marisa Tomei.

One of my all-time favourite movies. Although it does include moments of comedy I wouldn't feel comfortably calling Happy Accidents a 'romantic comedy'. To me, a 'romantic comedy' is a light-hearted story, a couple get together, then split up, then get back together again and it ...( read more)ends happily. The audience is entertained but unaffected. See Kate & Leopold.

I group Happy Accidents in the same category as Lost & Delirious, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Untamed Heart, My Life Without Me.

I love this movie, the acting is terrific, Vincent D'Onofrio is outstanding, and of course, Marisa Tomei is ever dependable. Vincent's character (Sam) reminds me a little of Prot from K-Pax. The question being asked all the way through the movie is whether or not Sam is who he says he is or is he just another screwball from the local mental asylum.

This movie was soooo boring, I stopped watching it in the middle, just because it was too miserable.

Slow, but worth sticking with. Very original idea for a romantic movie. Wasn't sure I liked it to start with, but it did end up being worth a watch.

A really good and diferent love story.

Before Brad Anderson created his masterpiece The Machinist, he directed two comedies "Next Stop Wonderland" and this film "Happy Accidents", the story is well written and the edition and direction are great. Vincent D'O

Happy Accidents is not your typical chessy chick flick, it has the feeling of a good love story mixed with a twisting ending.
