Hoot Gibson plays a dual role in the 1931 oater Hard Hombre. The "good" Hoot is a milquetoast type, while the "bad" hoot is a pugnacious Westerner. Actually the bad Hoot isn't so bad after all, but we don't know that until the good Hoot, in a case of mistaken identity, is hired as a ranch foreman. The real fun in this film lies in watching Gibson play two characters completely at odds with his established screen personality. Aiming more for chuckles than thrills, Hard Hombre is a most enjoyable little film.
