It's not a bad film but I was never much into Goblins, Witches/Wizards etc, I was more of a Dinosaurs and Astronauts kid. I also believe J.K Rowling is the biggest thief in literature's history. Didn't she do well though!

A great start and opener for the series, the kids all do well with their parts and actually fit their roles really well, all old school private school kids by looks and manner which really sets the scene and harks back to my childhood hehe
All the kids are partnered with a totall...( read more)y all star English cast too, almost every well known and top UK actor/actress is at Hogwarts for year one, from John Cleese to Rik Mayall....amazing feat of casting that has to be seen. The imagination and fantasy is original, spellbinding and looks fantastic, alot of cgi of course but it really looks good, not fake looking atall. The first truely amazing witch, magic and sorcerers fantasy movie of the series really sets the standard high and hopefully it will continue.

Imaginative, enchanting tale from the novel by J.K. Rowling about a beleaguered young boy who lives with his spoiled cousin and supercilious aunt and uncle. It's not until his eleventh birthday that he learns he's a wizard of unlimited potential, and is recruited to enroll at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where his late parents have a legacy. The teaching staff prepares him for big things, but he immediately learns that being a wizard is a much more than just fun and games. Engaging story creates a vivid world of magic, mysticism, and trickery, with effective performances from its predominantly young cast, but the script and story can't hold up to the impact of all the razzle-dazzle, and it goes on too long. There's plenty to take in, and lots of fun to be had, but the film is slow going at first, then fast-paced and exciting, then eventually slows down again as it nears its conclusion.

Good introduction to the Harry Potter universe. A bit juvenile at times, but altogether good. It's fun to watch Alan Rickman act circles around everybody, as always.
