This is a mess of a film. Style over content, it never seems to know what it wants to achieve. It does have some really good moments but they never feel intentional and they are always overshadowed by terrible acting, pointless scenes and stupid story lines! Good special effects/...( read more) gore though!

The first reel of this movie is a recap of the last movie - and it's just the same footage played again, not anything new. The rest of the movie tries to be Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. The script is not only bad, the acting and editing are awkward to fit it. The on...( read more)ly things I liked about this movie were a few shots of the Cenobites, especially where the main four are in their chain room, and again their world/philosophy is underexplained. I like them showing a Pinhead origins time lapse shot of his lines and nails being imposed on his face. Loving the gut-face Cenobite but disappointed by the mad shrink Cenobite. I like the Escher style labyrinth, but why only a few angles of it? I don't care about any of these characters, and I think continuing the storyline from the first was a horrible idea. The effects and blood are at least WAY better in this one compared to the first, but not enough to cover the brittle boned tale it hangs upon. Don't bother with this whole movie; just look up the best clips on youtube or summat.

The second best film in the series!

After the strange events of the first movie,Kirsty is sent to a Institution for the Mentally Sick, commanded by the mysterious Dr. Channard,a crazed psychologist who is willing to open the doors of hell by manipulating the Puzzle Box.In doing so,Channard brings Kirsty's perverse ...( read more)stepmother Julia back to life, and consequently he provokes the rage of the dreadful cenobites, the cruel and evil creatures that give pleasure and pain in the same measure.Hellbound Hellraiser 2 is an extremely well-done film, thanks to the generous budget given to newcomer filmmaker Tony Randel and a first-rate production. The special effects are simply terrific (specially considering the time in which the movie was done,1988) and they create a bombastic, scary visual.I never saw a movie with such an incredible scenery and imagery, except maybe for Dark City.Clive Barker's vision of hell is brought to life with mastery through the work of Randel and Director of Photography Robin Vidgeon. The plot sustains the tension and keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish, though the first half hour of Hellbound: Hellraiser II is a little bit slow and descriptive (but never boring); a great portion of the action and the terror is concentrated in the last minutes. The last thirty ones are a realistic and gutsy "tour de force" through fear, violence and suffering. This is definitively a masterpiece, but not for the squeamish.Hellbound: Hellraiser II is rated R for extreme violence and sex scenes,it runs 99 minutes(uncut version released by Anchor Bay).It stars Clare Higgins as Julia, Ashley Laurence as Kirsty, Imogen Boorman as Tiffany,William Hope as Kyle McRae and Kenneth Cranham as Dr. Channard. If you like this movie, you might also enjoy Phenomena and Suspiria.

Definitely the goriest of the series but just by a little bit. The concept is pretty cool but could've resulted in a much better film. Even so, both gore and Pinhead fans will not be disappointed... yet.

far more epic, ambitious, and complex than the first one, and I'm quite sure that this is superior than the original. And although this is made only with a limited budget, one can still see the imagination and vision that the filmmakers have. Simply put, "Hellbound: Hellraiser 2"...( read more) is a horror masterpiece of masterful proportions.

Ok. I saw this film recently since I hadn't seen it for a while. I love the Hellraiser Series. I think it's the greatest sample of Cilve Barker's work. I don't think they're a bunch of excellent movies or that they have anything great to offer to cinephiles. I just think they are an important chapter of what we call Horror cinema and I like them. Rewatching this film, reminded me of how much I had been disappointed by this movie. I can't remember the reason, but I had seen Hellraiser III before I had seen Hellraiser II. That's why I got disappointed. Hellraiser III is my favorite movie of the series and I was expecting that the 2nd movie would be greater. I was wrong. Hellraiser II is in my opinion a really mediocre movie (compared to some of the others of the series). Although I did enjoy the movie, I thaught something was missing throughout the whole film.

The plot (obviously) starts pretty much from where the 1st film ends. At the beginning of the movie we have something like a summary of what had happened in the first movie, something I find really annoying, although it is very helpful because we're given the chance to remember what had happened. I found it annoying, because in this way I personally couldn't consentrate on one thing or another and my attention was gone. About the scenario, Kirsty (the only survivor from the first film -as far as we know) had been taken to an insane asylum which was worse than anyone could think of. The patients really needed help but noone was there since the head of the clinic had himself being using the puzzle in order to help a woman who seems really familiar to us (I'm not making any spoilers :P). Kirsty has to stop this couple and also another patient of the asylum (whose name I can't really remember) has to solve the puzzle in order the demons (or cenobites) to return to hell. This is pretty much the story of this sequel in a few bad-written words. And yes, if you think this whole thing reminds you of the first movie, you're completely right.

The think I didn't like about this movie at all was its duration. It seemed like they wanted to expand the length of the movie no matter what. Near the end, I got really bored and just wanted this movie to end. The ending was pretty predictable and you could know what was about to happen several minutes before the film had reached to its last minute. That was what I found the most bothering thing of them all. Then it was the acting. Poor acting, without passion or emotions that just didn't add so much to the film and that's one of the reasons why you couldn't say this was a great movie. I found annoying the subject of how the movie was developing, which came as a surprise because we all know Barker and Atkin's really great writing skills. In some parts the story was developing too quickly, in some others just too slow. It seemed like the movie didn't have a certain continuity and this could really sonfuse you and sometimes tire you.

But enough with the dislikes. I loved the way the cenobites and especially Pinhead made their entrance in the movie. I was shivering while this was happening. This scene(s) was pretty much the reason I enjoyed the movie. Also, Hellraiser II adds a lot to the Hellraiser saga. We leard a lot about the puzzle's and Pinhead's origins. We see the true faces of the cenobites, we see their place and also we have another powerful cenobite's debut. There were some pretty scary scenes and the comeback and whole scene of Kirsty's uncle, Frank, was pretty clever beacuase it was a brilliant way to make the story continue from a point that you just thaught it was over. The special effects were outstanding (especially when thinking that we're talking about a 20 years old movie) and all the gore and blood scenes were really believable. At last, the soundtrack was pretty great and dragged you to the whole atmosphere and once again I really loved the cenobites' costumes.

Hellraiser II isn't the greatest movie of the series, but also, not the worse. By watching this film you will surely have a great time, but you can always watch something better. It's a MUST if you are a pinhead fan. The three or four minutes that he appears right at the middle of the movie are priceless. Only if he could have more screen time. Although, the fact that he plays a little is good for the movie, because you simply can't wait to see him. If you are into the whole gory-splattery movie Hellraiser II will certainly appeal to your tastes.

Just when I thought The Cenobites were a force to be reckoned with, a new evil introduces itself in the doctor. A lot more gore and more information on The Cenobites on who they used to be. Uncle Franks hell is somewhat comfortable suprisingly. A look but don't touch sort of insa...( read more)nity he goes through. Hell is different for all they say. A nice walk-through of it, nonetheless. A sequel that needed to be made that outshines the first.

The best in the series, probly cuz it descends into the creation, and world of the cenobites. But also because they were explained and are no longer as creepy, they were killed, and replaced by a new, more vile soul...I'm speaking of Dr. Channard. That's beside the point though,it's by far the best in the series,a must watch for Clive Barker fans.

Definitely the best of the Hellraiser series, but in terms of a sequel surpassing the original,......how about Terminator 2?
