After debating for months I finally read the manga and then watched the anime and despite the style not being my favourite kind, I love Alucard's insane character. So many of these vampires are brooding and depressing, whereas he's simply wonderfully mad and happy about it. :)
There are plenty of vampire animes out there. Why choose this one? One word. Baddassery. Did I make that word up? Yes. But it is the only word to describe it. You would think vampires wouldn't use guns, wouldn't you? You'd be wrong. Chocked full of violence, suggestive themes, and action packed goodness. Animation is can be stiff at times, but what anime isn't? It's about an organization called Hellsing in Britain whose sole purpose is to hunt down vampires and ghouls, and their best weapon just happens to be... a vampire! Not just any vampire, THE vampire of vampires. Seemingly 100% invincible, he likes to toy with his opponents, laughing as they shoot him to pieces, while he regenerates. With so many powers up his sleeve, it's interesting to wonder throughout what he'll do next! Great series for any anime collection.
amzing series. if you like vampire action packed stories and anime, (even if youre not that much into animem the story rocks) watch this!!!!!
Tied with Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust as my favorite horror animation. Great clean and concise rendering of the manga with a visual wallop that whacks anyone, no matter how picky about they are about animation.
Hellsing II and Helsing III Ultimate are not quite as good, though they are also brilliant, this is the best entry in the Ultimate series so far. Tight script, not a single wasted shot, superbly detailed, and masterfully voiced.
Also, just an interesting vision of modern vampires and related ghouls.
I love Hellsing. I have seen better animation in other series, and the storyline is very loose and I'm told nothing like the Manga, but still I can't help but love it for it's style, dark but romantic humour, as well as original character designs, expecially Sir Integra, one of the very few female transvestites in anime.
