Plot: The tenuous relationship between a mother and her daughter is severely tested when a shared lover is killed.
A very excentric drama by Spanish master Pedro Almodovar. Spellbinding female performances by both Marisa Paredes and (specially) Victoria Abril. It was good overall; a little bit dramatic and over-the-top, but OK. Perhaps the second best choice to begin with Almodovar.
78/100
Rule of thumb for mothers: Don't screw your daughter's lover. That tends to put a dampener on Christmas.
one of my all-time favorite Almodovar films. Starts to show the more refined emotional/psychological handling of characters in the later films.
Another great Almodovar comedy/drama, story drags a bit tho. I prefer his comedies to his dramas & wish hed make more more more lol. Luv VA always.
My favourite Almodovar film that is often overlooked. As usual, its got loads of intrigue and sex, although goodness knows why a police inspector would pose as a drag queen! Victoria Abril is wonderful.
An interesting case study in the relationships between women, both the biological kind and the transsexual kind. Almodovar's rich use of colour is gorgeous and reminiscent of an early 60s movie. Victoria Abril and Marisa Paredes are both wonderfully manipulative, cold, and vulnerable by turns.
