Ruth Hessey, MovieTime, ABC Radio National
So sweet you'll leave the cinema with diabetes.
-
Anthony Lane, New Yorker
Its winning formula is driven not by narrative but by what isn't there: no sex, no drugs, and no rock and roll-- unless you count the logjam of thundering power ballads.
-
Tasha Robinson, Chicago Tribune
Musical 3 is frustratingly shallow, but what it lacks in narrative ambition, it makes up for in dazzling choreography.
-
Peter Howell, Toronto Star
It's a classic case of giving the people what they want.
-
Moira MacDonald, Seattle Times
Everything works out! Everyone's hair looks great! Some of the kids end up at Juilliard! I hope real high school is like this.
-
Peter Hartlaub, San Francisco Chronicle
Efron is once again Travolta-esque, although he appears to be quickly outgrowing this material. Hudgens is still annoyingly bland both in facial expressions and voice.
-
Kevin Carr, 7M Pictures
This isn't the film for fanboys or arthouse freaks. But for the tweenage girls out there, you can get your Troy Bolton fix with this DVD.
-
David Nusair, Reel Film Reviews
...suffers from precisely the same sort of problems that plagued its two underwhelming predecessors...
-
Kam Williams, EURWeb
Will certainly resonate with its targeted preteen demographic, as its principal cast has returned for a sequel appropriately enhanced for the big screen.
-
Ryan Cracknell, Movie Views
Like the burnouts who stick longer than their leather jackets warrant, the shtick has gotten stale.
-
James Plath, Movie Metropolis
The choreography and dancing are amazing.
-
Kam Williams, NewsBlaze
Will certainly resonate with its targeted preteen demographic, as its principal cast has returned for a sequel appropriately enhanced for the big screen.
-
John Beifuss, Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)
A generous, upbeat film that provides lively, unthreatening entertainment for young viewers...
-
Robert Roten, Laramie Movie Scope
I'm glad I didn't pay full price to see this, but it is not a bad way to pass some time in a bargain theater or a cheap movie rental.
-
Michael Dance, The Cinema Source
Mostly harmless.
-
Bruce Bennett, Spectrum (St. George, Utah)
Regardless of whether Disney's G-rated phenomenon is your cup of tea, you have to admire this films boundless will to create fun, inspiring entertainment on a level second to none.
-
Jim Schembri, The Age (Australia)
High School Musical 3 overstays its welcome, stretching out about 20 minutes longer than it needs to, thanks chiefly to a final celebratory reel that simply refuses to end.
-
Paul Byrnes, Sydney Morning Herald
A real, honest-to-goodness teen musical throwback, as if Andy Hardy had never died and James Dean had never lived.
-
Vicky Roach, Daily Telegraph (Australia)
This is good, clean G-rated escapism delivered by fresh, talented young performers.

Just like one and two a fun time for my daughter. She loved it and was dancing in front of her seat during the show.

It's senior year and the students have to make choices about college and love. Cheesy and innocent fun.

First theatrically released musical in the ambitious Disney series is, once more, highly overrated. If the real Walt Disney (please stand up!) were still alive, and he actually approved this B.S., a) I would freak out at how unrealistic that scenario is (and so would so many others), and b) it would be a much, much better performance.
It's depressing: the fact that America lusts over actors like Zac Efron (that whole name goes up on spell check), and then they'll do anything to see him in anything. Even a dumb kids' musical like this one that should have just remained a "Disney Channel Original Movie". (Or been scrapped altogether.) Pity.

Actually a good movie, much better than the first 2. This movie was fun, some better music and a nice story. The acting has never been good in this movie, so their record stays the same there. For once, a High School Musical I can enjoy.

I love all of the High School Musicals. Amazing! A must see!

What is so endearing about the High School Musical trilogy is how it's message of defining yourself as who you want, having important, honest friendships and relationships and accepting others for who they are is something all kids should learn and it's portrayed here in an upbeat, fun and always gentle way. "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" is the best of the three due to the fact of the high production value, Broadway style dance numbers, and a cast that has matured into a group of nice young actors who are immensely talented. Obviously, this series, and the musical genre, is not for everyone, but for kids and those of us who love a good old fashioned musical, "High School Musical" is something to cherish.

The concluding chapter in the popular tween-friendly series known as "High School Musical" is sure to entertain audiences outside the tween zone.
It's offers catchy fizz-pumping songs, choreography that'll have you saying, "Wow, good choreography.", and good teen melodrama.
High School Musical 3: Senior Year is the "Toy Story 3" of the series. Remember how Toy Story 3 made us ask the question, "What will happen to the toys in the future?" HSM 3 makes us woinder, "What will happen when these teens graduate?" That question will be answered while you are embraced in the music. The story may be lame to you but you'll actually enjoy it due to the music, songs, and dancing.
High School Musical dosen't stand as one of the best trilogies in cinematic history but this conclusion is worth watching and may become one of your favorite trilogies after you see this final chapter.
"I haven't played with Robo-Rob since third grade."

this was horrible. i fell asleep while watching it. it was better then the first two but thats not saying anything. D

Finally, I'm done. The same story with different songs - "different" is arguable. Sharpay and Ryan are much too cozy to be siblings. Vanessa Hudgens is a better ballroom dancer than singer. I can't believe she's playing Mimi in LA.

This movie lacks a story line, any conflict whatsoever, character development or meaning. It also lacks a pulse, High School Musical 3 is a dead movie.

No offense, but all the High School Musical series really not my favorite... The acting was standard, the story was too cliche.. The good thing that only happen in this movie is the song or you can called it soundtrack of this movie... But the soundtrack itself just getting worsen from the first movie til now hit the third movie... The music is weird, the lyrics too simple and the voice of Zac Efron, Vanessa Anne Hudgens, or the other cast didn't improve at all... Same as the story, just getting worsen... But for entertaining, it just okay... That's why I gave this movie 3 stars, not 2 or lower...

Spectacular of six teens' final year of high school graduate and it's a lightweigh if likeable song-and-dance-along though daydreams, future schemes and cheese. At the ending was fantastic for audiencing a farewell to six cast of High School Musical series as a memory before the next series will come out this year with different new cast.

First of all, please stop expecting another "Citizen Kane" and enjoy HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3 for what it is, a fantastic piece of entertainment! The third installment of Disney's most succesful franchise is definitely the best, as Kenny Ortega's growth as a director (and, of course, a bigger budget) helped turn a fun kiddie flick into an exciting, more mature musical. Of course, you can't get rid of all the cheesiness, but they certainly toned it down a bit for the cinematographic version. The songs aren't as good and catchy like the ones from the first 2, but combined with some amazing choreographies and beautiful set design, they're a joy to watch. Expect a lot of eye candy, ranging from awesome sets to the beautiful costume design. And don't forget the talented cast, especially Zac Efron, Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel (still the best voice). Vanessa Hudgens is kinda annoying, but she is very beautiful, so I don't completely hate her. Most of all, this movie is PURE FUN. As soon as it ended, I wanted to see it again.

I gave this movie a shot, i was just curious on how a TV movie series turned to the big screen would turn out and it really had a dull plot and random musical outbreaks unlike other musical films. This is a major skip it in my opinon.

For what it is HSM3 is, it's good. What was most impressive about it to me was how Disney managed to round up such talented kids. Love or hate Zac Efron he is a really talented preformer. Because the film is rated G and intended for very young viewers it takes no chances and so there really isn't a whole lot to admire. But one must know this going into it. For a film that takes all the sex, drugs, and foul language out of highschool and replaces it with singing and dancing it could have been a whole lot worse and while it skips along following all the highschool movie conventions it never really loses it's harmless charms. It's truley light entertainment, but it's honest and true to itself and it's audience. The highschool element was derivative, but like I said the film is really careful not to take any chances. Don't get me wrong, it has dramatic conflict, just sweet and frothy dramatic conflict. Once you get passed the fact that it's highschool with rainbows and lollypops it's really just a plethora of dance numbers. Although there were really only two songs; slow and fast, the choreography was good and all the numbers were pretty fun. Some were better than others. It's more about dancing and production because the songs all seemed a bit thrown together. Kids won't notice that though. The end was basically a compilation of all the previous songs as opposed to anything show stopping. Overall, highschool musical is fun. It's not anything great, but it works. Competently written, competently directed, and competently acted, Efron and Hudgeons have chemistry. It's no Hairspray or Dreamgirls, but it's dances along smoothly.

High School Musical 3 is much better than the first two films, mainly because of better songs and an interesting story. The cast still bothers me and didn't really do anything new here. The script has some good fun with its characters and gives them a good send off. I am not a High School Musical fan, but this final installment improved upon the first films and was actually a decent musical.

The performances are flat, the story (if any) is repetitive and the lead characters are perpetually annoying.
