Featuring new interviews with the cast and crew of the films as well as the fans and other horror directors influenced by Friday The 13th. His Name Was Jason is a real treat for Friday fans. His Name Was Jason offers new facts on the films and it's legacy as one of the most enduring horror franchise in the history of the genre. Hosted by Tom Savini who did the effects for Friday the 13th and Friday The 13th The Final Chapter. As a diehard fan of horror and of Friday The 13th, I thoroughly enjoyed this documentary. Fans will most likely be pleased at the content offered in this documentary. The film does offer terrific insight on the legacy and the success of the films. This is a well assembled documentary that Friday fans will relish. His Name Was Jason is a documentary for the fans, made by the fans. The interviews are well done and it's very interesting to see how the Friday The 13th films influenced filmmakers, fans and pop culture. If you're a diehard Jason fan, you owe yourself to watch this documentary. I have been a fan of the series since the age of 12 and I can honestly say that this documentary does the series justice. Fans will love it I'm sure, but for people who dislike Friday The 13th, you may one want to skip this documentary. Like I've said, this is a documentary strictly for the fans and by the fans.

  Yeah, this "documentary" just sucks. From hearing so many good things, I expected something really good. I think the fact that it has so many people from the series in the interviews, people tend to love it...but I'm sorry, it's crap.

  An interesting look into the history of Friday the 13th. It covers everything from script to score and has a wide variety of cast and crew interviews. It's fun to see Kane Hodder talk about his love for the role and the phenomena that the series has become.

  A sickly, self congratulatory blowjob of a "documentary". This is just an hour and a half of publicity for the recent remake. As such it's people continuously saying how good the films are. It takes about 20 minutes for everybody to just sum up the plot of every film.… More
  A sickly, self congratulatory blowjob of a "documentary". This is just an hour and a half of publicity for the recent remake. As such it's people continuously saying how good the films are. It takes about 20 minutes for everybody to just sum up the plot of every film. Then we hear about their favourite bits. There's nothing on the actual making of the film and the importance of the film is overstated. Can't help but laugh when when the actress that played Annie says how people write to her saying "what an inspiration the character is". That's just bullshit. Some of the best moments come in the end credits where people seem like actual fans, rather than being forced to plug the latest outing. Does it ask why such a cheap, repetitive and simple franchise has spawned such an icon? No, it simply states that he is an icon. It's a film with nothing new for the fans, and nothing to interest the anybody else.

  His Name Was Jason is a look back at the biggest horror franchise in film history Friday the 13th. Extensive interviews with cast, crew, and fans travel down the many roads of Camp Crystal Lake. The host is FX god Tom Savini. I don't know if the documentary itself is worthy of four stars. It's informative, yet edited kind of hap hazardly with Savini's vignets seeming kind of hokey. It's the bonus features that really make this an interesting piece, especially the interviews with all of the directors (except Steve Miner and Ronnie Yu) and the actors that "played" Jason (we must remember that it's a stuntman in a mask). This is a must have for hardcore fans. Everyone else will probably want to steer clear.

  Well made, fact and trivia filled documentary on Jason and his legacy hosted by FX master Tom Savini. It was also nice to see how alot of the actors have aged--some of them quite well: Judie (part 4) Aronson in particular. The second disc featuring alot of unused interviews and clips is just as good as the documentary itself plus it comes with a neat mini-poster of the DVD cover so it was well worth the already cheap price.

  Sub-standard documentary on the <i>Friday the 13th</i> franchise that squanders an opportunity to look into the longevity of the series, is rarely critical of any shortcomings, is far too haphazardly edited and features an annoying narrative 'device' - Tom Savini walking round a Jason-invaded set. Actors from all the films share their thoughts - which mostly consist of "that was cool!" - and often hilariously overstate things (one actress claims her character is a strong role model for women). Analysis is wafer thin, mostly because each talking head gets about 3 seconds of hyperbole before cutting to someone else. Massively disappointing and far from the exhaustive documentary I was promised - I learned nothing and was only vaguely entertained.

  This review is like my review of Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy, this is simply to make you aware of the existence of this film. This one is similar to Elm Street Legacy in that it is about the making of a Horror Icon except in this case it is Jason not Freddy. I know that there is also one about Michael but that one will come later. I think that this film is weaker than Legacy because it doesn't go into as much detail as Legacy does and it is far more full of itself. Maybe I feel that because I'm Team Freddy. Yeah, don't be Team Jacob or Team Edward, be Team Jason or Team Freddy. Which are you? Anyway, I'm off topic here, but This film is alright. It's much shorter than Legacy (1 1/2 hours as opposed to over 4 hours). I enjoyed this one.
