An interesting and different look at the rise and fall of Germany's Fuhrer Adolf Hitler through the use of stock and recently exhumed footage. Definitely worth a look for people interested in Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany.

Narrated by Brian Cox (who played Hermann Goring the com...( read more)mander of the Luftwaffe a.k.a. the Nazi German Airforce in the T.V. movie Nuremberg) the 1 hour and 10 minute documentary takes a look at the state of Nazi Germany in it's humble beginnings, full of bolster and springing wealth and prosperity as they welcome their new leader, Adolf Hitler into office. From there as Cox narrates we hear different voice actors read letters and documents from all walks of life. From the soldiers loyal to Hitler, to the common German Jewish effected by the Nazi's ascention to power.

Most of the footage deals with functions Hitler and the party attended like after the Anchluss in Austria, Hitler's leisure time at the Berghof and his relationship with Ava Braun, meetings with David Lloyd George, Neville Chamberlin (then Prime Minister of Britain) and Benito Mussolini (dictator of Italy) the latter with Hitler as Hitler shows off his mightly armed forces in all it's deadly glory. It also highlights the plight of the Jewish people both through the read letters but also through footage of de-sheveled and malnourished Jews and property owned by them and destroyed/defaced by the Nazi mobs. It also shows the destruction of Berlin and many other German epicenters showing the destruction and devestation that Hitler brought on his own people by turning his country into a fascist state. Ultimately in the end Hitler betrayed his people and the footage shows it.

This is a great watch for any World War II, Hitler/Nazi enthusiast (yes they exist and no they're not all skinhead racist neo-nazis, some are just interested for the knowledge) as it features a majority of footage of events and visits with other nations and national marches. It's not as great introduction to Adolf Hitler and the NSDAP as say "Triumph Of The Will" but it does show the negatives of Nazism which should be commended.

This documentary doesn't go as deep into Adolf Hitler's world as I would've liked, but even so. A great look at Germany's Fuhrer. Seeing all the color images really bring it more to life than regular black/white.
