As anyone who's seen any footage of the real Jimmy Hoffa knows, in this movie, Jack IS Hoffa. Most of the time, when we see a Jack Nicholson role, we are usually watching him play it with the characteristics that he's known for ( even his Joker, which, while it worked, was still an over the top version of his "Jackisms"). For me it was refreshing to see an actor of his high-calibur standing take on a role of a somewhat actual historic figure & therefore, play it in a manner made it easy to forget that we were watching Jack Nicholson. IMO, truly an underrated performance by living legend.

See this for Jack's astonishing performance if nothing else..he's dead on for Hoffa, and this drama portrays a side of Hoffa not often told...fine supporting cast, able direction and tight script....it will keep the viewer nvolved til lthe very end.

Huh, so that's what happened to Jimmy Hoffa? Well it was interesting and pretty well-made, though probably a bit inaccurate, as they made him look more innocent than Howard Hughes did in the Aviator. Interesting subject though, and a good cast.

Starts off slow, but really builds up momentum throughout. The ending might be fictional, but Nicholson as Jimmy Hoffa is a far cry from most of his other performances and is done very well. Also, DeVito surprisingly is not annoying in this. Amazing.

a pretty good movie i usually lose my patience at these type of political crap, but when i saw the monster cast, the great names like Jack Nicholson as Jimmy Hoffa and Danny DeVito and Armand Assante, an inspiring movie about the support of the working class, a story and biography of Jimmy Hoffa a great revolutionar a great politician and a people's person.....deffinetly an interesting story!!!

Jack Nicholson is brilliant as always but even his brilliance doesn't discount that this movie is about thirty minutes too long and the payoff at the end just isn't that great. They made up Jimmy Hoffa's death and that takes away from the credibility of the movie. If they made that up what else in the movie did they make up then?? Jack's still the man though!

This shows the tragic arc of the American Labor Movement from the picket line to the golf course for the executives in the labor movement. Nicholson's performance is A+! Strong and abrasive. I thought it would take me at least the first 10 minutes of the movie to be able to sink into the notion that he was Hoffa...but that did not happen. I immediately saw past nicholson and was able to concentrate on the charchter of Hoffa. That's a sign of a great actor! Director Danny Devito did a good job balancing this charachter by giving pleasure to all qualities of Hoffa. RENT THIS!

One of the few films that Jack wasn't "Jack". He really lost himself in this role and took on a different persona. Danny DeVito was good, as usual, and he didn't let Jack steal all the scenes.

Very well acted, Nicholson is excellent as always. However after the first half the movie starts to drag. Like most of DeVito's movies it falls apart.

Had forgotten how good this is. Nicholson looks and acts like Hoffa. Usually Nicholson looks and acts like Nicholson.

"Life's a negotiation. It's all give and take."
Jimmy Hoffa was a good union organizer. He knew that unity meant strength for workers and that unorganized individuals were weak and would remain poorly paid as truck drivers. Jimmy was a businessman; his business was selling union labour to the bosses. Danny DeVito plays himself and tries his best to direct this movie about Hoffa. Jack plays DeVito's Hoffa well; but Danny's movie could have done without the musical syrup and the lame attempt to pull a "Godfather V" out of the hat. But, it must be said that it is useful to know how vainglorious Bobby Kennedy was in his early attempt to further a Kennedy political dynasty. There's a good organizing tip in here too, "If you don't take no for an answer, eventually, the answer comes back yes." spoke by the very fictitious Bobby Ciaro.

excellent performance by Jack Nicholson powers this fact-and-fiction biography of Teamsters president Jimmy Hoffa. Jack Nicholson as Jimmy Hoffa sometimes difficult to determine the real events from the fiction. one of Danny DeVito best performances

Jack Nicholson gave an excellent performance in this movie about Teamsters... but take it with a grain of salt as it has some fiction to it!
