Holiday is a Korean crime drama from Yun-ho Yang with a variety of flavors to it.
Based off a true Korean incident in the 1980s, the story has some intriguing concepts. The earlier parts of the film feel like The Shawshank Redemption, while the latter parts feel more like something out of The Great Escape. At 2 hours, the pace is moderate with a slow down and high drama near the ending. This isn't all that surprising. In fact, there may be too much drama at times, which makes for a less entertaining movie.

The characters have decent build up, however the villain, while a typical bad character, is just one to hate. Thanks to this, the good guys are that much more likable, which makes the ending even more effective.

Min-su Choi does a superb job as Kim An-seok the prison charge AKA the bad guy. Sung-jae Lee pulls off an effective leader of the pack and the supporting cast each provide their own personalities to the group.

This film does have a serious tone and message having to do with the criminal justice system, but the ending is somewhat disappointing and the entertainment factor is a little low. Still, Holiday is worthy of a watch.
