in 1932 the world faced a grim future with imminent economic collapse, world war, global warming and the rise of socialism...and didn't make a lot of sense to a lot of people, feeing like the end of the world (hey...that sounds very familiar!). the answer to all that confusion: ... ...( read more )

the marx brothers at it again in another scenerio. great for afternoon watching when there's nothing happening. the funniest one in this is harpo and the best gags are surely the animal ones. a seal on a letter? hahah! a pig instead of a pick! hah! yes, i enjoy watching the marx ... ...( read more )

The usual formula of slapstick and witty banter, intermingled with sly digs at authority and its hyposcrisy. My favourite Marx Bros film.

Hilarious. I remember Sunday Morning Funnies playing on TV (when we didn't go to church, which was rare) and I always loved the Marx Brothers, especially this one (though Abott and Costello were my faves).

I know this one came first, but it's basically Duck Soup on a college campus. Groucho is crowned, Chico and Harpo are brought into help, Zeppo sings a little bit, there's a climactic battle made up of several short skirmishes, and they end it by beating up on the woman they were ... ...( read more )

Another hillarious Marx brother movie, now i probaly have seen all their movies that i wanted to see, maybe some others to like 'a night in casablanca' 'copacobana' and 'room service'.

A classic Marx Brothers film that goes on to the top four that is worth seeing for a grand old laugh. Witty punchlines, and clever remarks to get yourself out of the neck of troubles.

Fantastic stuff, and top-notch musical interludes as well. Love "I'm Against It" and "Everyone Says I Love You."

Has one of my favorite Chico misunderstandings:

Chico: Ah, you sing'a high, eh?
Thelma Todd: Yes, I have a falsetto voice.
Chico: That'sa funny, my last pupil ... ...( read more )

Another masterpiece from the Marx Brothers. It is, as always, seriously funny stuff. The song, "Whatever it is, I'm against it" sung by Groucho had me in stitches. I love all of their movies but this has to be one of the best in my opinion. It's another must see, that comes highl... ...( read more )

College should be like this for everyone. In fact, if Groucho was my teacher (he plays Professor Wagstaff), I would still be there!
The best football scene ever filmed, too.

I watched this movie on TCM and not usually hearting it mentioned as one of the GREAT Marx Brothers films was pleasantly surprised to find it made me laugh out loud throughout almost its entire running time. Amusing to see that many of the critiques about academia haven't change... ...( read more )

Great gags but not nearly as funny as Duck Soup, which was released a year later. When the gags(visual and speech) came along, most were very witty and funny even today,in true Marx Brothers style. However, there were too many lulls in the movie when the pace just sagged and the ... ...( read more )

This is the Marx Bros.' best film--not "Duck Soup" or "Night at the Opera." Wall-to-wall humor, very little music to slow it down.

This is (I believe) where the classic "swordfish" routine comes from.

I like how wacky this is for 1930's, but unfortunately most of the jokes have become cliche over the decades so I didn't laugh very often.

another wonderful marx bros outing, solid in comedic sequence and dialogue, groucho is once again very amazing and the brothers are also very funny, one can't help but laugh after watching this

It doesn't quite measure up to the heights of DUCK SOUP (their best early film), but along with ANIMAL CRACKERS, I do find HORSE FEATHERS to be among the three best of the Marx Brothers' first five misadventures.
As the unconventional head of Huxley College, Groucho still remains... ...( read more )

Very gd - loved the scene in the speakeasy.... hilarious. Although Groucho is the only one really in the limelight here.

This was my first Groucho Marx film and I must say that I really like the whole Groucho Marx persona. I didn't like the other Marx Brothers though, especially not the silent one. The plot was just an excuse to cram the jokes in.
