Yes, I am a Marxist!! What is a campus widow anyhow?
  • July 29, 2007
College should be like this for everyone. In fact, if Groucho was my teacher (he plays Professor Wagstaff), I would still be there!
The best football scene ever filmed, too.
  • July 29, 2007
Whatever it is, I'm against it!
  • June 15, 2007
The usual formula of slapstick and witty banter, intermingled with sly digs at authority and its hyposcrisy. My favourite Marx Bros film.

I know this one came first, but it's basically Duck Soup on a college campus. Groucho is crowned, Chico and Harpo are brought into help, Zeppo sings a little bit, there's a climactic battle made up of several short skirmishes, and they end it by beating up on the woman they were ...( read more)all after in the first place. But I guess plot is the reason we watch these movies is it?

The Marx Brothers are always hilarious!
  • May 29, 2007
Dated in many ways... but in others, surprisingly not.

This is what all colleges should be like!

I watched this movie on TCM and not usually hearting it mentioned as one of the GREAT Marx Brothers films was pleasantly surprised to find it made me laugh out loud throughout almost its entire running time. Amusing to see that many of the critiques about academia haven't change...( read more)d much in seventy odd years. Good stuff.

Great gags but not nearly as funny as Duck Soup, which was released a year later. When the gags(visual and speech) came along, most were very witty and funny even today,in true Marx Brothers style. However, there were too many lulls in the movie when the pace just sagged and the ...( read more)gags were badly missed. Not their greatest work but still funny enough to warrant a respectable place in the Marx Brothers' cannon.

    Goofy Marx Bros fun.
  • May 2, 2007
    Okay, not really my thing.
  • April 13, 2007
This is the Marx Bros.' best film--not "Duck Soup" or "Night at the Opera." Wall-to-wall humor, very little music to slow it down.

This is (I believe) where the classic "swordfish" routine comes from.

  • February 15, 2007
I like how wacky this is for 1930's, but unfortunately most of the jokes have become cliche over the decades so I didn't laugh very often.
  • January 31, 2007
Possibly my favorite Marx Brothers' movie.

It doesn't quite measure up to the heights of DUCK SOUP (their best early film), but along with ANIMAL CRACKERS, I do find HORSE FEATHERS to be among the three best of the Marx Brothers' first five misadventures.
As the unconventional head of Huxley College, Groucho still remains...( read more) the consummate hilarious wiseguy, this time even insulting his disappointing "son" Zeppo (who was probably put to his best use for HORSE FEATHERS). And don't forget -- the password is "Swordfish"...
The only one missing again is Margaret Dumont, who is in many ways as crucial an ingredient to the madcap formula as are Groucho, Harpo and Chico (and certainly more essential than Zeppo).

I loved this film. So funny I cannot say.
  • August 30, 2006
Very gd - loved the scene in the speakeasy.... hilarious. Although Groucho is the only one really in the limelight here.
  • August 29, 2006
"I'm Against It" is Groucho's funniest song of all.
  • August 12, 2006

    lol...... funny fucken shit.
  • June 28, 2006
This was my first Groucho Marx film and I must say that I really like the whole Groucho Marx persona. I didn't like the other Marx Brothers though, especially not the silent one. The plot was just an excuse to cram the jokes in.
