Dana Stevens, Slate
It's such a vibrant goof, so full of love both for the movies and for its cast of ridiculous characters that you forgive it the odd soggy stretch.
-
Richard Corliss, TIME Magazine
Wright and Pegg have topped Shaun of the Dead by trans(atlantic)planting a whole gaggle of genres.
-
Anthony Lane, New Yorker
The movie duly quickens into pursuits of every speed, and the homage to action thrillers is there in the smallest detail; the clicking of a ballpoint pen, say, is amplified to sound as menacing as the cocking of a gun.
-
Joshua Rothkopf, Time Out New York
Nervous yet, Hollywood? Better make room for a few more lads.
-
Joe Williams, St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Because this culture-clash comedy has real characters, a real story and a real big payoff, the two-hour length is a light sentence.
-
Claudia Puig, USA Today
Though it's no Monty Python, Hot Fuzz is a clever, over-the-top marriage of mayhem and merriment.
-
Gabe Leibowitz, Film and Felt
Hot Fuzz, Edgar Wright's follow-up to his extremely popular zombie satire Shaun of the Dead (2004), improves on the latter's strong points in every conceivable way while drastically tightening up its weakest elements.
-
Ian Buckwalter, DCist
Works because they set out to make a faithful genre picture just as equally as a comedy. The film is even funnier because they never sacrifice plot or character for a laugh.
-
Neil Miller, Film School Rejects
From paying homage to Michael Bay's camera motions to kicking an old lady square in the kisser, this film holds nothing back and fires away with tons of laughs.
-
Fernando F. Croce, CinePassion
There's real fondness not just for the crash-a-tons being referenced, but also for a homey, practically imaginary England
-
Urban Cinefile Critics, Urban Cinefile
The opening premise of Hot Fuzz is like the recipe for a simple concept comedy: overachieving cop in underachieving village, and it works to set the all important tone in this funnily ridiculous film.
-
Jeff Bayer, The Scorecard Review
The makers of Shaun of the Dead have done it again. This time they have combined a classic cop-buddy movie with a quaint town in England, and yes, laughs definitely ensue.
-
Jonathan Kiefer, Sacramento News & Review
It's overlong and not always precisely on target but neither self-congratulating nor condescending -- and a fine, funny contribution to English-American mutual amusement besides.
-
Steve Biodrowski, ESplatter
... as if a cop movie spoof had been awkwardly rammed into a seriously splatter film, with a big, violent blowout finale to blur the lines between the two.
-
Stefan Birgir Stefansson, sbs.is
.
-
Sandie Angulo Chen, Common Sense Media
Bad Boys meets Shaun of the Dead.
-
Kevin A. Ranson, MovieCrypt.com
... lives up to expectations even if it can't exceed the hype.
-
JoBlo, JoBlo's Movie Emporium
Yet another excellent mélange of movie genres from Britain's team of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
-
Tim Brayton, Antagony & Ecstasy
It's a movie that is literally, painfully funny, insofar as I occasionally laughed so hard that I thought my chest was about to collapse.

Rob Gonsalves, eFilmCritic.com
Past a certain point, one requires more from smart and enthusiastic fans than a reiteration of their fanhood.

I'm not the biggest fan of cop films, and I haven't seen a lot of Simon Pegg/Nick Frosts work but if their movies are as good as this one sign me up. Not only is this one of the most well done comedies and action filsm I've seen, its one of the best films I've ever seen in general. The jokes, the parody, the relationship between the two main characters, the twist, the acting, the action, all of it is just entertaining as hell and keeps you watching no matter what mood you're in. Pegg and Frost work off each other so eye to eye in this film that it comes off as legit and hilarious. And the ending climax that I won't spoil on what happens, but I'll just say, its one of the most entertaining climaxes I've seen before in a film, and the best shootout I've seen in an action film.

However, this doesn't stop this action filled laugh fest from being as superb and clever as the first instalment in 'The Cornetto Trilogy'.

With a fantastic direction and an Oscar-worthy editing, it boasts a brilliant script that combines hilarious comedy, exhilarating action and clever thriller while paying an incredible attention to the smallest details - though too restrained with violence in its climax.

After impressing audiences with his cult hit Shaun of the Dead, Edgar Wright reassembled [most of] the same cast and did a buddy-cop flick, entitled Hot Fuzz. If not for the brilliant chemistry between Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as two completely opposite partners is engaging and hilarious.
Danny Butterman: It's not murder, it's ketchup.
Edgar Wright's script is filled with memorable one-liners ("You haven't seen Bad Boys II?) and combines the genre's of action and comedy into one fun film. This film is extremely British, filmed in Britain, staring British people. Just how I like it.
Danny Butterman: Supercop. Meet the cop that can't be stopped.
Visually, this is a stunning film. I review Blu-rays for a living (yes, I'm serious), and the editing looks similar to the sequences in these big blockbusters, yet has the smarts of an indie film. What a skillfully lukewarm combination!
For fans of British cinema, Hot Fuzz shall not be missed.
Nicholas Angel: It's Frank! He's appointed himself Judge, Jury and Executioner.

It makes good use of all it's cast members and doesn't over do it with effects and rules in favour of smart scripted comedy, it is probably the best parody film ever made. The comic brilliance of the duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost has been proven once again! It is an extremely fresh thrill ride with great action sequences and storyline and believe it or not, it even improved itself from Shaun of the Dead!

What can I say, you'll be surprised to hear that I was alittle disappointed to be honest. Yeah it was funny in places but not a riot by any means, the whole idea is so good I just think they wasted the chance to REALLY top it. It starts off really well but gets less funny and too silly from the half way mark if you ask me.
There's almost every top English actor in this, which kinda makes it alittle to 'cameo happy' and almost abit to full of itself, ego building hehe. The ending was just too stupid really, the whole film has a good satire and spoof humour about it but the end sequence is just way too over the top, the spoofery and larger than life action is just too much, almost like a daft comdey sketch from Monty Python or Bottom, sometimes you can spoof too hard and spoil the humour.

The second film from the Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost team is a really funny followup to their successful Shaun of the Dead. There's a lot of little references to Shaun of the Dead that are hilarious. Although Hot Fuzz isn't quite as good as Shaun of the Dead; it's still a great comedy in it's own right. As Shaun of the Dead tackled zombie films; Hot Fuzz tackled the buddy cop movies.
It's great as a spoof, yet still really funny as a stand alone movie. If you haven't seen that many of the movies Hot Fuzz is spoofing, it wouldn't really matter. It would still be funny. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost is one of the best comedy teams around. They have great chemistry onscreen together and just make for a really fun experience every time you watch them.
There's a lot to like from Hot Fuzz and not a lot to hate. If you find something to dislike about this movie you are looking way too hard.
Reverend Philip Shooter: Oh, you're an agnostic, then?
Dr. Robin Hatcher: I think I've got a cream for that!

There's just so much originality in their particular brand of humor, you'll be laughing constantly at every set piece and every scene. What's more impressive is the genre loyalty, from character archetypes to plot there's very much love for this film.

What I love about Simon Pegg is that he LOVES films and it is evident (as in Shuan Of The Dead) again here.

While the film starts of just the way you'd expect it to (silly, light hearted, fun)...it ends up taking a surprisingly dark turn about halfway through and even throws some fairly gruesome special effects into the mix.
The image of an elderly Billie Whitelaw firing a machine gun (beehive hair bouncing with each kickback) was priceless.

An interesting story turns into something maybe a little too silly, but in the end, the ride is WELL worth it. The quick editing techniques that Edgar Wright uses are very effective, and his direction couldn't be better. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are also brilliant as the two leads. This trio is pretty amazing and meshes together beautifully. I can't wait to see what Wright does next. This movie has made me a fan.

Smoothly mimicking it's way through cliched Dramas and stereotypical views of the countryside, along with a borrowed touch of Action and an all star British cast, this comedy gem is a true unique touch to British comedy and is a great watch time and time again.
It doesn't get better than this for Pegg and Frost.

Completely exeeded my expectations. I never would have thought that Edgar Wright and the gang could top the wonderful "Shaun of the Dead," but somehow Hot Fuzz does with flying colors. This is literally a belly-laugh a minute type of film, and it's seemingly flawless mix of action, humour, gore, and buddy movie homages/cliches makes it not only one of the best films of the year so far, but one of the best comedies i've seen in the past few years.
Highly Recommended!

The comedy duo who made Shaun of the Dead, Pegg and Frost made this funny cop movie about a supercop in a sleepy English village. It's a cross between Midsomers Murders and Bad Boys.
