Plot: A short epilogue of one heartbreaking history of love and the prologue of the travel told in The Darjeeling Limited.
Loved the performances (big fan of both Portman and Schwartzman) but for a Wes Anderson creation, it was dissapointing, as was the movie that followed it.
A short film that takes place before the events of 'the Darjeeling Limited'.
Jack Whitman (Jason Schwartzman) has been living away in a French hotel for many months.
One day the woman he moved away from (Natalie Portman) finds him. Confused, but still in love with one another, the two spend one final passionate day together, before Jack vows to leave her forever.
This simple little story is a great opener for 'The Darjeeling Limited' and muh of it is mentioned in the film.
Schwartzman is good as his sad characer and Portman is her usual good self - plus she gets naked in the film, which is always a good thing!
A nice, short, little film.
actually pretty good, despite jason schwartzman. or maybe because of him? i don't know. it works, for some odd reason. unlike the ensuing film.
Brilliant short film that shows a liitle of one of the main character's life in The Darjeeling Limited. Natalie Portman shines in a role so different than what she usually plays. This film accompanies The Darjeeling Limited, and is an important prologue about love and heartbreak further explored in the film.
The best part of the Darjeeling Limited. Still strange, but Portman and Schwartzman were fun to watch.
Again, more proof that Wes Anderson is a short story author in a filmmaker's body. This short prologue to THE DARJEELING LIMITED is elegantly shot and well acted, but I was left wondering what the point was. Sure, it sets up Schwartzman's character and some of his quirks for the feature film to come, but outside of that it feels like an exercise, reeking of pointlessness.
I feel like Wes Anderson has a spyglass into my life. This scene reminded me of a certain relationship.
Idunno what rating to give to this. It was weird. The dialogue was very very original and nice, but idk, it was weird.
this was just a stupid thing to make, i mean there was no point to it and he was so like dedicated to her even though shes like a jerk. i didnt get why they had to make it because it just ruined the whole first part of the movie.
I actually saw this at the beginning of Darjeeling Limited and thought it was part of the movie. It's really funny and interesting I find. I feel it works better at the top of Darjeeling though and not on it's own.
Pitch-perfect dialogue, delivery, cinematography and music. It is a gem of a film, mysterious yet telling, short and bittersweet.
Tight little film. Classic Wes Anderson. I love that his style is so strong and recongizable after only a few short years... A truly impressive feat for any creative.
A short that pre-faced The Darjeeling Limited and is of little consequence on its own, it's really only notable for the use of music and for Natalie Portman's nudity. Beautifully filmed though.
Natalie is horrible, and any one who disagrees sniffs there on farts for fun. She has limited abilities and sounds like a dang 60's robot.
I'm not entirely sure why this is listed as a seperate movie, because it was shown immediately before The Darjeeling Limited and is kind of pointless without it. I thought this was ok, it was just about sex really. I did laugh at the 'view of Paris', you'll know what I mean when you see it! Darjeeling is an almost 5 star movie - Hotel Chevalier on its own is not worth that much!
I loved this short film and it is a must see" before watching The Darjeeling Limited to understand Schwartzman's obsession with his ex.girlfriend and why Portman shows up in the film for a few seconds.
What the hell?? This one only makes sense when watched in tandem with Darjeeling Limited, and I think it should be counted as an essential part of that movie, as it was screened first and put on the DVD as required viewing. As a short itself, I don't like it, but as a pre-quel type of film, it's good. Rating N/A.
I guess this was a prologue for The Darjeeling Limited. 13 minutes of Jason Schwartzman looking miserable and Natalie Portman naked is something I never ever wanted to see.
Perfect prelude for The Darjeeling Limited. Just loved it.

HOTEL CHEVALIER (2007)
directed by Wes Anderson
starring Jason Schwartzman, Natalie PortmanHotel Chevalier is a short film that should be followed by Wes Anderson's latest The Darjeeling Limited. It has Jason Schwartzman in a hotel room in Paris - in comes back in the feature film - and he orders some stuff, gets a call from a former girlfriend, it seems like its freshly ended. She is not supposed to know he is there, but she found him and they meet for one last time and have sex.The highlight of this film really is Natalie Portman's bare butt, it does look good. Okay, well, its more than that, its a Wes anderson picture so there is a lot of colors and he creates a mood with his fine camera movement and his soundtrack. The actors are fine, tehy have chemistry and Schwartzman look like a dummy with his mustache.
The film would be kinda useless if it existed on its own, but instead it makes you want to see The Darjeeling Limited. It has no real plot but its not bad.
This was actually a great romantic piece, but in a bitter sweet way. I also admired the fact we finally get to see Natalie in the flesh!
At first is akward, you just don't know why everything is there, but then, after watching the whole movie you understand and start loving it. It just works perfectly as a prelude for The Darjeeling Limited. I really liked it, I'm giving it the same # of stars that I gave the movie because if you don't watch this you won't be able to realize where a few aspects of the movie are coming from. I started watching this before I saw the movie and at first was like blah! but after I watched the film I finished watching this prelude and it made me apreciate Jason Schwartzman's character a lot more. Plus points: Natalie Portman is lovely here!!!!
Designed as a quick primer for The Darjeeling Limited, Hotel Chevalier actually works as a stand-alone short. The trademark dry humor, no-frills dialogue and picture-perfect cinematography of Wes Anderson is present, and the acting is great.
Also, you see Natalie Portman's ass.
