Wow, this story really got to my heart. It's just horrifying that people can turn against eachother like they did in Rwanda. The story was just great, but also very shocking in it's truthfulness.

Hotel Rwanda wasn't a film that instantly jumped at me. In fact when it was released in 2005, i didn't even know Don Cheadle or Joaquin Phoenix. It was only later after Gladiator and the Ocean's franchise that i started seeing more of them. Now i own the dvd, at a steal, bought i...( read more)t for $9.90, hah! One of the best films i've ever watched. Moving and powerful. Now i know 'powerful' gets tossed about often, and most of the time undeservedly. But if u've seen Hotel Rwanda, you'd agree that it is just that. The scene in the rain where the guests of the Mille Collinnes were being evacuated, boarding the bus, literally brought tears to my eyes. There was one man who even took pictures of the hotel staff and the refugees as they stood and watched them about to leave their ravaged land. They were being abandoned to fend for themselves against their own people divided by race and fuelled by hatred. This is a must see movie. Make time for it, rent it, buy it, or borrow it,you must not miss Hotel Rwanda.

A moving true story about a man who risked his life to help many others in a desperate situation during the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Don Cheadle was on top of his game in this giving an outstanding performance as Paul Rusesabagina, I never once questioned his character as a genuine...( read more) Rwandan.

There so many cruel and heartbreaking moments with small glimpses of hope and humanity coming primarily from Paul. Its a film that can also make you angry as it did for me knowing that in only 3 months one million people were murdered while the rest of the world just turned a blind eye and did nothing.

    A very powerful movie.

Heel aangrijpend, Ziek dat dit nog waargebeurd is ook.

    People say it is horrible.
  • September 18, 2009
Don Cheadle's performance is brilliant in this true story set during the atrocities in Rwanda.

Terry George has done a remarkable job in conveying a very personal story while also establishing the broader political picture. It's a scathing indictment on the West's unforgivable reluctance to firstly even acknowledge the atrocities, then secondly prevent them. The voice of a...( read more) US State Department spokeswoman evasively avoiding calling it genocide is as ironical as it is disturbing. The film admirably avoids exploiting the brutality of the conflict, though it's still hard to conceive of how it only warrants the kid-friendly PG-13 rating in the US. Instead it focuses more on the psychological impact of the conflagration, the arbitrariness of death and the devastating effects of fear.

It is to Cheadle's credit that such an established actor can divorce himself from recognition and simply become the personification of Paul Rusesabagina. His accent and performance are unimpeachable and worthy of all the plaudits including a much deserved Oscar nomination.

An excellent film, can't believe I didnt watch it sooner!

Don Cheadle's finest work and probably one of the best dramas around, nothing quite hits you in the heart than a movie about struggle and survivial in the world's most dangerous and hopless continent... Africa. And it pre...( read more)tty much made things clear that the world cannot stand by too long while people are being massacared... and in the end, one million people were killed in Rwanda.

Enter Paul Rusesabagina (Cheadle) , a Hutu, who is the manager of the Hôtel des Mille Collines in Kigali, Rwanda. When the Hutu President is killed after Tutsi rebels broke and agreement, the extremist Hutu army and milita ordered the death of all Tutsi rebels and their conspirators, leading to the death of millions. Paul's wife, being a Tutsi, is found by a small group of refugees and he manages to hide them inside his hotel which i guarded by UN peacekeepers. But the handful soon turn into hundreds, as the extremists begin to "cleanse" the land of the cockroaches, and the UN powerless to help, the Western World seeing no gain from sending any reinforcements. With the foriengers and UN gone, Paul uses bribes to keep the militia at bay while his employer Mr Tillens (Jean Reno) and General Oliver (Gary Busey) try to convince the superiors and nations to assist the Rwandans....and in the midst of all this, Paul is left to manage his four star hotel and its workers, care for his scared family and protect the hundreds of refugees under his care, risking his wealth and his life to save as many as he can.

A really great piece of filmmaking, the drama never stops as Paul and the world surrounding him plunges into deeper levels of despair after the other, and at times hope is almost lost, and time has run out

An excellent film.... Go watch it yourself, nothing more to be said here.

This is one of those heart touching movies portraying the truth behind a world crisis. The movie was very well done and shows just how bad the genocide in Rwanda was in the 90's.

    Vizionare placuta.

Hotel Rwanda is a 2004 historical drama film about the hotelier Paul Rusesabagina (played by Don Cheadle) during the Rwandan Genocide of 1994. And it is listed by the American Film Institute as one of the 100 most inspirational movies of all time.

The true-life story of Paul Rusesabagina, a hotel manager who housed over a thousand Tutsi refugees during their struggle against the Hutu militia in Rwanda.
