Ron Howard falls off the sliegh in this ambitious Jim Carrey ride, the live action Grinch movie. This time, the grumpy green giy is Carrey playing himself, but kinda nasty, so nasty in fact it was actuallly scaring the kids! Whoville was the best part, with odd houses and structures and brightly colored fantasy galore. The make=up on eaxch actor consiisted of nose and wear stuff. Grinnch was especially green, fuzzy and dark. His dog steals the show though. Voted the worst kid's movie of 2000.
This awful "recreation" of this precious story is a vile and inaccurate depiction of Suess's town of Whoville. The Whos are portaryed as selfish, nasty, rude, greedy and materialistic. Dr. Suess would have been appalled. As am I.
This is a truly inspiring Christmas masterpiece. This is probably one of the best family films ever made. This film is absolutely hilarious. It probably isnt as good as other Christmas classic films like It?s A Wonderful Life and Miracle On 34th Street. Well, only in peoples different opinions. There is only one time a year I watch this film and that time is on Christmas Eve or maybe Christmas Day if it is on TV. This film is so magical with the costumes, the art direction and the whole plot in general really. This film is very similar to Nightmare Before Christmas because The Grinch wants to destroy Christmas and so does Jack. But the only difference is that Jack wants one of his own Christmas?. But the Grinch wants to completely destroy it. Another similarity is that they both dress up as Santa even though neither are human. Jim Carrey portrays the Grinch perfectly because the Grinch is a very stubborn character, he is a very hyper character who makes some silly mistakes and does some silly things, which is why it is perfect for Jim Carrey because that is how he behaves towards people and when he is alone aswell with his dog Max. Jim Carreys style of acting is really good for a character like the Grinch because he is a mean character yet soft hearted really. He portrays a hilarious villain like Count Olaf in Lemony Snicket and as he does as a hero/villain in this film. As far as the plot of the film is concerned I could understand why the Grinch never wanted to go down to Whoville or made any friends from anyone who lived down there (apart from Cindy Lou and Martha May) because he was bullied at junior school as a child because he was different and was green aswell. I think the main turning point in this film was when Cindy Lou came up to the Grinchs house and invited him to the Holiday Cheermeister on Christmas Eve. He started to battle with his conscience saying whether he should go or not. I wont say anymore because it will spoil the film for you. This is a Christmas Classic film.
I liked this version a lot more than the cartoon version. Jim Carey makes an excellent Grinch. It was just the right amount of mischief, and kindness to make a perfect Christmas film.
The Grinch is a great film to watch around Christmas time because it has a great life lesson in it. Jim Carrey was great once again and lots of the scenes with him were really funny.
Live-action Seuss that works. While Carrey's craziness usually doesn't get a laugh out of me, it matches the style of Seuss's books. Plus any film that uses an adorable dog side-kick makes up for some annoying aspects for me.
HAHAHAHA its a classic! how can you not love seuss? i think jim carrey was definately a great pick to play the grinch. although the cartoon version is much better i have to say...
Great enhancement of the cherished Christmas Tale. Jim Carrey is spectacular in his performance. Always on my shelf to be watched every Christmas to come!
This hilarious film, with the unique oddness of Dr. Seuss, is a big hit. The Grinch, a troubled creature that hates Christmas, doesn't want anyone else enjoying it either. However, the nearby town of Whoville, love Christmas, and so the Grinch hatches a plan to steal it...
This is kind of a dark remake of the original Grinch but I enjoyed it. Not a huge fan of Jim Carrey but this kind of strange character seems to suit him well. All in all a good Christmas movie.
i watched this film again the other night and i did not relise just how funny it actually is !
it is one of those films even thought it is set at chrismas can be watched any time of the year.
