Howard the Duck Reviews and Ratings

To my surprise, it wasn't a totally disaster, in that a few of the jokes (the intentional ones that is) worked, and everything was appropriately daffy. Tim Robbins, in a small role had great zest and was so crazy it was funny, correctly attacking the material as a bizarre farce. ...( read more)Now, the bad. The special effects (minus a creature near the end) are a mess, and Howard looks like he was assembled at a flea market. Lea Thompson added weight to every line, so anything out of her mouth was the most dire thing ever, making it laughable. Jeffery Jones' voice during the transformation scenes is horrendous, and tonally, the movie is all over the place, never getting a rhythm. However, I have seen far worse things, and I had fun watching it, despite (or perhaps because of) the failures. MST this thing until the cows come home!

It is hard to criticize as "corny" that which appears to aspire to corn. I think HOWARD THE DUCK is precisely the movie it wants to be: aggressively campy, self-consciously but not insincerely heartfelt, unabashedly odd and some good fun for the viewer with good will, and perhap...( read more)s great fun for the viewer with pot. Jeffrey Jones is hilarious. Tim Robbins is a little too slapstick for my taste but certainly not out of place in HOWARD THE DUCK's universe.

I remember watching this movie when I was a kid. Now it's just weird.

Howard the Duck has plenty to pick apart about it. It has some bad acting, lame fights and perverse jokes. I loved it as a kid but now that I see that it has it's share of problems.

But with that said, I still don't think it was awful. The Howard costume is amazing for one ...( read more)thing, now that I think about it. I mean the expressions and mouth movement is perfect. If the movie was done in the day and age of CGI, he could have looked awful. So I think they pulled off Howard very well.

I also loved Lea Thompson in this, despite deserving better. It wasn't her best work, but she was hot and gave one of the better performances. I used to like Tim Robbins as a lab assistant obsessed with Howard. But now I see that he over-acted pretty bad. Today, someone like Rainn Wilson (The Office) could have nailed the part without even trying.

Watching the movie 2 a.m on cable, I didn't enjoy it as much as I did as a kid. However I was amused by some of the humor. I also of course still find Lea Thompson extremely hot in this movie lol. So thumbs up from hormones lol.

I loved this stupid movie - if for no other reason than Lea Thompson in mini skirts.
It was a fun, sarcastic movie. One I would like to find on DVD just to relive old times.
Howard: "What is the name of this place?"
    Beverly:"Oh, Cleveland,"
Howard: "Cleave Land. What a perfe...( read more)ctly weird name for this planet"

Okay, it's dumb as hell at times and nowhere near as clever as the comics were, but it's got Lea Thompson looking like a stone fox and a few funny lines, so why the hell not give it another shot?

Worth a look kids, give it a rental.

Finally a film where I get to see duck breasts!

This film is beyond silly, the fact that it was made a while ago gives it an even more campy feel. Watching the film I was surprised it even got green lighted, it was a challenge to get through. One crazy thing happens after anothe...( read more)r and I am stuck waiting for it to end.

Yes! This film is as bad as people say. Yes it is corny and campy. Images of the horror flash before my eyes. It will take a while before my mind suppresses them.

One of those early "Marvel Movies" that let you with a WTF Feeling to it! I for one had a, "When will it end?" feeling the whole movie. When it finally ended, i was relieved, one of those movies, that are almost that bad that they're good, but not quite there.
