Come tutti i film di Miyazaki e dello Studio Ghibli in generale, merita di essere visto. Probabilmente non è tra i più belli, a me è comunque piaciuto e lo trovo per certi versi notevole. E, lo ammetto, ho anche pianto un pochino.

This is easily the worst film of all the Hayao Miyazaki films I've seen, but keep in mind that is all relative. When compared to most of the average animated films released this past decade it still has a slight leg up visually. But, admittedly, this film has a lot of problems th...( read more)at all arise from its scattered plotline. Nothing really seems to flow naturally in this one, unlike comparable Miyazaki outings such as Spirited Away (a masterpiece) and Ponyo (a sensual treat). The story doesn't work as well in execution. If you have seen the other two you will understand what I mean. The relationships among characters also seem cardboard and unrealistic. Sure, the childlike wonder is still there, but it gets lost in an awkward war story. It's a nice effort which just does not entirely work.

This is another amazing movie my Hayao Miyazaki. Great cast, and amazing animation. in a few stills of the movie, i wonder if the background was his art or a photograph ! I also love how the perfect amount of romance was added to the plot; it wasn't overpowering so that boys coul...( read more)dn't sit through it, i'm sure. (: If you have a family of any age, i'd recommend this movie. ^^

This is my second favorite Miyazaki movie so far. Billy Crystal was the perfect voice for a disgruntled ball of fire. I love the random sidekicks that are always accompanying the main characters in his movies.

    My absolute favorite movie! :D

Not as good as Spirited Away, but definitely one of my favorites! This isn't just a story about finding your one true love, or about how war is evil: Miyazaki's films have ingrained meaning in them that would only make itself known to you once you think about the film in its enti...( read more)rety after seeing it.

One of the best parts i must say for me, would be during the near-end of the movie, when Sophie gave back Howl's heart. If i'm not mistaken, it signifies many things one of which is that, men will truly love a woman who is willing to give them back their heart...for only a selfless woman would be so gentle and so kind as to set the man she loves free, even is she is doubtful that he might not come back.

Another would be Sophie's journey inside the dark room, where she sees Howl's childhood. I think it's a clever embodiment of how men truly want to be understood, and not just men, but people in general. Sophie wanted to help Howl, but she was only able to accomplish that by going back and understanding his entire story. It shows us that we can never really help someone, unless we truly understand...

There are more life lessons to be learned from this movie, and to speak of it as plainly an animation whose plot has been overused so many times is just absurd. Miyazaki's works delves deeper than his animations and wonderful characters: it challenges us to find what's hidden in front of our eyes. He is amazing at bringing human emotions into characters that are most of the time doubtful, insincere, selfish, but kind - much like real people.

Though it is mostly entertaining, it's surprising how it tries to reach the human heart.

This is my favorite Miyazaki film! The character designs are so great! I love the story and how it's like an unorthodox fairy-tale.

This is one of studio ghibli's greatest. It's got that sweet tone that we see a lot with this studio's films and the visuals are spectacular. The castle and all the other things in this film look great!

    Truly magical and fantastical.

Howl: Wow, Sophie, your hair looks just like starlight. It's beautiful.
Young Sophie: You think so? So do I!

This movie was so cute and had a good amount of funny parts. I'm glad I saw it...( read more) and I honestly thought it wouldn't be as awesome as it was. It totally transports you to another world; a world of endless possibilities and imagination. A wonderful adventure. :)

  • September 6, 2009
While it doesn't live up to the standard of Spirited Away and falls apart towards the end, there are some charming characters, some great Miyazaki steampunk oddness, and typically high-quality animation. I found the voicework a little lacking, in both Japanese and English.

    Seen 2 times.

Wow. Je....( read more).. Wow.

Miyazaki is definitely one of my all-time favorite directors. No matter how weird the plot, he always brings it through to a moving work of art. I loved the characters, the storyline, and I even loved the American Voice Actors. I would not count this among Miyazaki's best, but it...( read more) definitely fits up to his standards. Some parts it of were a little on the cheesy side (much like a few other movies of his) but it did not go to extreme levels.
