After a chance meeting in an elevator finds engaged engineer Aditya (Akshay Kumar) suddenly smitten with shy and spoken-for Jia (Katrina Kaif), a series of repeated encounters throughout the city soon lead Adi to believe that perhaps destiny has played no small role in bringing the pair together. A simple girl from a prosperous family, Jia longs for the friendship and affection not afforded to her in either her family relationships or her relationship with her tightly-wound husband-to-be. As the pair grows ever closer and Jia's appreciation for Adi's gentle humor, thoughtful nature, and accepting sister and brother-in-law grows, her definition of "family" begins to take on an entirely new perspective.
