  Good enough killer Scarecrow movie but ultimately forgettable. Not as much gore as I was expecting either but I did find the finger nailing scenes quite horrible. It did provide a few well built creepy moments also but no proper scares. It was refreshingly quite unpredictable as far as who lived and died, no happy ending in this also which is another plus. But overall there's nothing too much to it, it jumps straight into things without much character development or build up of supense but it's decent enough for late night entertainment.

  I am generally not a fan of slasher films. Most of them these days are just ridiculous. This film, however, is actually very well done, and doesn't go the route of the typical slasher film. It has more of a creepy factor, which I more prefer. If you take time to see the DVD extras, you will also find this movie was shot in 18 days, and each actor is basically unknown at this time. This movie is a shining example of really decent film making, and a really decent attempt at a storyline. Low budget slasher film fans probably hate this movie, because it isn't just cheap bloody thrills....

  Husk would be a lot better if the plot wasn't so forced. Husk is about a group of kids who get in a car accident in the middle of nowhere in a corn field. The kids first of all are very dumb. I'm not sure what possessed them to do any of the idiotic things they did. It didn't make sense; there was no logic behind their actions. The plot itself seemed forced into place, and it wasn't explained at all. The geeky kid started seeing visions out of nowhere. You knew he was going to live for a while because the plot obviously needed to use him in order to tell the backstory of the corn field. That made the movie very predictable because you knew the plot couldn't go further without him. The other boy, Brian lost his girlfriend and started to go crazy, so you knew his dead girlfriend would somehow lead to his demise (*SPOILER* which it did). And the last boy, Brandon or whatever, was a selfish jerk, so you knew karma would get him sooner or later. The plot definitely needed to be fixed in order for the movie to work.

  2.1/10 After Dark Horrorfest has released some good movies into the world, such as "Frontier(s)" and "The Gravedancers". When I first heard of After Dark Originals, I was skeptic, and upon seeing "Husk", I guess this reaction was the correct one. I say this because, unlike some of the best films from each After Dark Horrorfest, "Husk" is just a poor horror flick in general. It's not scary, it's not creepy, and frankly, it really sucks. The film is rendered nearly unwatchable due to a distinct lack of chills and atmosphere. The flick tries, tries, and tries; but can't achieve, achieve, achieve. Of course, this is how most horror movies are, and while "Husk" may not think it's generic, it really is. I feel no need to name the characters. They're not the center of the story. The center of the story is, in fact, a creepy old farmhouse in the middle of a corn-field; in which there are creepy scare-crow demons that hunt our "characters", who just happen to crash their car nearby these fields. The film attempts to be some super-cool paranormal venture, and I admit; it's a decent idea. I would have loved to watch a movie about evil scarecrow demons, but then again, I would have only loved it if it were good. The thing just isn't engaging. Cinematography is decent, and it's the only thing keeping "Husk" from being the worst thing ever, but it's still a god-awful movie with nothing to prove and nothing new to show fans of the genre. Perhaps this is why it was direct-to-video; because it's not well-acted, because it's not well-made, and because it's not a good movie. What were these people thinking? Did they think that such bad execution of such a decent concept would fare well with cinephiles and horror fans alike? Who was this made for? Horror fans are the only ones who will give this flick a chance, and as I like to imagine, they shall be gravely disappointed. "Husk" does stuff, but it's never anything that we give a shit about. It's a fast-paced thrill-ride that embraces boredom through poor directorial skills and story-telling. Some people like to watch these films for laughter induced by pure boredom. Sure, I get that; I mean, that's probably why I watched "Husk" in the first place. But when the movie bores you without making you laugh...that's just sad. There's just no fun- and not even guilty fun- to be had in this horror movie. Its blood, gory, and violent, sure; but also dumb, relentlessly draggy, and lame, lame, lame. Of course, there are much better direct-to-video films; with better ideas, better filmmakers attached, and better everything that "Husk" does not care to possess. And if you really love this genre, you will avoid the thing.

  Banal concept, characters are new but lacks background and does things that a normal person would not do in that certain situation, cliched scare tactics and some parts predictable. But, in a time where horror films are mostly bad, Husk brings us a little something new on the table.

  Piss-poor horror flick notable only for the utter lack of *any* redeeming qualities, it makes <i>Children of the Corn</i> and <i>Jeepers Creepers 2</i> look like masterpieces. The characters are from the weakest of stock (there's even a bespectacled geek who, having surprised a friend with his 'extensive' cornfield trivia, says "I read. A lot."), and have arrived without any apparent prior personality or history (it's never explained why they are in the middle of nowhere, let alone why they don't just all run back to the main road). The "origin" makes little narrative sense and is told with the aid of possibly the most hideous, utterly illogical exposition device I've ever seen (afore-mentioned geek suddenly finds himself watching events inside a dead character's flashbacks). The crew aren't even able to exploit the potential eeriness of cornfields, windmills and farmhouses at night; shots are badly composed and are riddled with continuity errors, the music score is utterly unmemorable, and even the cheap SUDDEN LOUD NOISE scares are ineffective. Without even the saving grace of some good prosthetics or decent gore, there is absolutely nothing to recommend this awful film.

  "Husk" is a film that has some chilling moments, the directing is adequate and the premise though not new is somewhat spooky with some uncanny elements. I personally found scarecrows creepy and I really enjoy movies with them though I just have seen not more than 5 movies.
