    You could almost feel the pain of having to watch someone struggle to be in their kid's life without being mentally-challenged, what more if that someone is. That's how effective this movie is in giving you that idea.

    this movie can be sweet, touching and irritating at times! well, i salute sean penn, he was marvellous! the story line was good, not slow and not too fast, and yet another thing was DAKOTA FANNING, she is superb, act as a 7 years old, and the bonding and love with her father was excellent! movie that cant be missed!

    A movie about a handicapped and mental disorder ALWAYS gives us something to think about, whether it is delivered well or not, basically, it's always does. I am Sam is not the best movie in this genre, afterall will always remember Dustin Hoffman's performance in Rain Man overshadowing Penn's performance here. Penn gave an A-list performance, it's just the characters were basically the same, about men which mentally disordered. The plain story was TOUCHING, the script was okay, Fanning, also introduced herself as the new prodigy of Hollywood, her performance inevitably reached Penn and Pfeiffer's level, played as Lucy, the child. Besides, Pfeiffer just gave a simply okay performance here as the pro-bono lawyer.
    In the other side, nothing special about rests, I mean the aspects outside the great acting, the actors made a simple script turned into something to remember for. See this.

    Lucy: Daddy, did God made for you to be like this or was it an accident?
    Sam: Ok, what do you mean?
    Lucy: I mean you're different.
    Sam: But what do you mean?
    Lucy: You're not like other daddies.
    Sam: I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Yeah, I'm sorry.
    Lucy: It's ok, daddy. It's ok. Don't be sorry. I'm lucky. Nobody else's daddy ever comes to the park.
    Sam: Yeah! Yeah! Yeah, we are lucky. Aren't we lucky? Yeah!

    Yes, this is a movie that surely makes a tough guy cry. Then just enjoy the story, don't give a damn care about the cinematography and all, because that's what this kind of movie about, a touching story, get yourself as many Kleenex as possible, then enjoy I AM SAM.

    The cinematography and the acting make it an interesting movie.Sean Penn is intense and appealing;outstanding performances by Dakota Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer,Dianne Wiest and other supporting actors.I was touched but I couldn't not noticed that it's too emotionally manipulative,
    sickeningly sweet and unrealistic.

    Beautiful and heartfelt movie, Dakota Fanning is creepily mature for her age, and Sean Penn really does a good job of capturing the truth in his character.

    Moving human story for all of us to learn about the good things we have in life. Or if you want, just watch this because of Sean Penn and little Dakota Fanning.

    This movie is SOOOOOO BORING! The best part is where Sam is comforting his lawyer and he starts kissing her shoulder and stuff 'cause you're like "OMG is he gonna get lucky?" (btw it doesn't happen). It is one of the worse ones I've seen!

    Despite this movie being kind of slow (no pun intended) it was a pretty good movie! It was a sad movie though. They wouldnt just let them be. Sam's struggle to get his kid back proves that even though hes handicaped doesnt mean he can't love someone. There's people out there having kids left and right that don't want anything to do with them... its a sad world.

    Great film packed with brilliant actors. When I went in I wasn't particularly expecting anything great. It's another oscar bait movie with an actor being retarded, but I was pleasently surprised.

    Stunning performance by Sean Penn;
    Dakota Fanning was adorable;
    The transformation undergone by Michelle Pfeifer's character, as well as the actress herself, were great.

    Touching story.

    This rich mature script with its dead-on dialogue and powerful performances held me engaged and sympathetic. Some films keep you on the edge of your chair ... "I Am Sam" keeps you on the edge of a tear.

    Penn may be playing just the type of character Oscar loves, but don't hold that against him. This is a fiery, complex performance and one of the more brutally honest depictions of mental illness the screen has seen.
    Penn's portrayal is free of the general tics and gestures that most actors employ when diving into such parts, and his style is so loose and natural it's easy to believe he is actually handicapped.
    What I am Sam does best is get to the heart of the emotional roller
    coaster by asking: Do you have to be smarter than your child to be a good parent? Or, are other criteria -- love, trust, emotional support and security -- just as important? Could such things be even more important than brains?

    I loved this film, I wanted to see it for such a long time, until they showed it on television. It did not disappoint. Sean Penn, you are a shimmering star with a great deal of talent, your light will never burn out.

    A film I'm really fond of, I remember the first tim of watching this, at the beginning I thougt it was going to be a rip off of Rain Man, but Sean Penn made this character his own and the onscreen relationship between him and Dakota was pure chemistry. The story itself makes you ponder the dilemma, whilst also bringing a smile to your face.

    I saw this movie, right after I had seen MurderBall. I Am Sam CBS Sunday Night movie was the worst cut movie, ever shown on TV! Although, very well acted it was everything Murderball was not. Sam appealed on a heartstring tug sentimental basis. The movie is about a developmentally challenged father trying to raise his little girl.
