I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell

A tireless and charismatic novelty seeker, Tucker (Matt Czuchry) tricks his buddy Dan (Geoff Stults) into lying to his fiancée Kristy (Keri Lynn Pratt), so they can go to a legendary strip club three ...( read more  read more... )and a half hours away to celebrate Dan’s last days of bachelorhood in proper style. Tucker drags their misanthropic friend Drew (Jesse Bradford) along for the ride, and before they know it Tucker’s pursuit of a hilarious carnal interest lands Dan in serious trouble with his both the law and his future wife.

The ensuing blowout leaves Tucker uninvited to the wedding and ankle deep in a mess of his own creation. If he wants back into the wedding and the lives of his best friends, he’ll have to find a way to balance the demands of friendship with his own narcissism and selfishness.

    I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell is a movie based on the book of the same name. The book, I wasn't familiar with it until I saw the movie, is a compilation of supposedly true short stories about drinking. The book was on the best sellers list for a while, but the movie won't be.

    ...( read more)It's a limited release movie that is actually pretty good. It's not American Pie or The Hangover good, but it's pretty entertaining and plenty funny. It starts off really good, and there is a desperately lame part of the film toward the ending that needed to be changed. During that part they have a scene that is unfunny, where it shouldn't fail at any level. It's a guy who has to poop real bad. How can you not make that funny? It can be done, and is in this movie. I think they were trying to insert a sad, serious moment (just before the pooping scene), and that's where they failed on a pretty large scale. The ending picks back up and saves what almost had me let down by Beer.

    The only actor that is really recognizable is Jesse Bradford, but he usually does small parts. Everyone does well playing their roles, and for such a low budget movie, the casting was really good.

    Boobs, beer and wild times, besides the poorly done part to this movie, it's good. You'll find lots of laughs, but you'd be better served waiting to see it on a movie channel than passing on other movies that are out and seeing this in theaters.

    Well I'll give "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell" one thing, never in my life have I seen a film that has touched me in such a way. A film that has inspired so much hatred in me that it gets the distinct honor of being the first film that I absolutely refuse to rate.
    So what does ...( read more)a film have to do in order to inspire such a response? Well not only does it have to be suicidely unfunny, acting that seems to come straight from the Pinnacco theatre school or the fact that you have characters and direction about as deep and thoughtful as a puddle. The reason why this film is not getting a rating is because writer Tucker Max and director Bob Grosse does not seem to care about art or profit. Just a $7 million dollar excuse to express Max's misogynistic and racist views and hope that we do not notice that none of it is funny.
    Yes there are some movies with offensive humor but its none of those movies seem to be as intentionally mean spirited as this film. Seriously you can take this film into a psychology class and write a essay about how he Max shows the signs of future serial killer. I mean here are the comments from the trailer
    "That turtle is telling me to kill that fat chick, its not like they are real people."
    "Magic Johnson is black and has AIDS and has it better then me."
    Now the comments from the actual film all I'll say is that he makes Anti Christ look like the latest Meryl Streep comedy.
    I know that there some may write me off as a humorless liberal prick but I tend to love buddy comedies. Just lets make clear that there is a difference between "The Hangover" and a film like this. "The Hangover" is without a doubt a guy film but its not hateful or mean spirited and actually funny. While "I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell" is everything ugly and wrong about Hollywood and does not even get a single laugh.
    Simply put I cannot support this film in anyway possible, not as a film critic, not as a son, not as a brother of 3 sisters, not as a boyfriend and most importantly not as a man. Hopefully the rest of us can leave this cinematic wasteland behind us and put this 30 something toddler in the corner where he belongs.

    It's pretty fucking funny...up to a point then there is a joke that goes on too long that takes it down a level and puts it back with other shitty coming of age movies. But Jesse Bradford is actually dare I say really good in this movie my favorite character for sure.

    I really don't wanna know about Tucker's sex life in motion picture...the 40 pages of the book that i read were more than enough.
