I, You, He, She (Je, Tu, Il, Elle)
Je Tu Il Elle was the first feature-length effort from avant-garde filmmaker Chantal Akerman. The story, simple in extreme, concerns a high-strung woman taking a lengthy journey through France. Her life up until now has been one huge question mark. By dwelling long and hard on every experience, she hopes to find answers during her cross-country odyssey. Chantal Akerman herself plays a major role in Je Tu Il Elle, which also features Niels Arestrup and Claire Wauthion. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"Akerman must have had enormous confidence in herself to be so bold both aesthetically and sexually so early in her career."
‑ Dan Callahan, House Next Door
"The film made her name on the film festival circuit, for the nudity and extended sex scene... as much as the focus and intensity of the eerily disconnected portrait."
‑ Sean Axmaker, Seanax.com
"Stark yet brimming with sensation"
‑ Fernando F. Croce, CinePassion
"... plays well as a sexual odyssey."
‑ Dennis Schwartz, Ozus' World Movie Reviews
"A masterpiece that would be the crowning achievement for many directors."
‑ Christopher Long, Movie Metropolis
