Impressive animation carries this sequel, as the story is not up to par. Kids will surely enjoy it, but most everyone else will wish to see more of the mute ice squirrel and less of the main characters.
I watched this one before the first one so I really enjoyed it. I feel bad for that damn squirrel. I liked that Queen Latifah thought she was a possum. lol
Lookie! All your old favorites are back (with a few new friends) for a whole new adventure. Well, an outing. Okay, a long walk, but it's a family-friendly walk, okay.
Unfortunately, the Ice Age sequel doesn't take a major step forward like Toy Story 2 did, its missing the novelty of the first film, both in the imaginatively drawn prehistoric setting and the witty interaction between the characters.
In my opinion, the original Ice Age had more thought, more heart, and far more danger for the adventure of the entire thing, but will easily fit the bill as long as all you're expecting is merely more of the same -- and Scrat getting pummelled along the way. Its good, don't get me wrong, especially if you enjoyed the first one as much as I did, its just not great, and I probably gave it more star credit than it actually deserves but I don't care, Sid the sloth rocks!
I bought this and Ice Age in a twin pack for £3.99, a bargin in its own right, but after watching them both I found out what a real bargin, both are real little gems and I'm looking forward to watching the third installment
Three unlikely friends, "Sid the Land Sloth" (voiced by John Leguizamo), "Manford 'Manny' the Wolly Mamoth" (voiced by Ray Ramono) and "Diego the Saber-tooth Tiger" (voiced by Dennis Leary) have discovered that the ice damn keeping the area they and other species live dry is melting. There claims are confirmed by a vulture.
The residents of this area go on a journey to a natural boat made out of a large tree for safety. Along the way, they meet "Ellie" (voiced by Queen Latifah), a female Wolly Mamoth who believes she is a possum, and her two "brothers", and actual possums, "Eddie" (voiced by Josh Peck) and "Crash" (voiced by Seann William Scott).
The group then go on an adventure to the boat, while trying to dodge predators that are following them.
Let me say first that this movie is very much a kids movie. There are a lot of things that kids will like, but the adults will find pretty boring.
A lot of times, this movie seems to drag and drag. I found myself looking more at my computer than paying attention as to what was going on on my television.
When it comes to humor, I can't say that it's a great comedy movie. In fact, the jokes either produced nothing or a mild chuckle. There was a pretty good laugh near the end of the movie, and some pretty good laughs with "Scrat the Saber-tooth Squirrel" (voiced by Chris Wedge). I just wasn't real amused with the movie's humor.
Another thing I was not impressed with was the music. I can barely remember two tunes, but none of the lyrics, except a little bit that was sung by one of the characters after the scene, because he found it catchy.
One thing I was pretty impressed with was the animation. Although the creatures were cartoonish looking, which was by design, they were well done. The detailing is not that great though, you only see any sense of movement of muscles with the mammoths. But, because this movie is target to kids, the didn't bring out the details that other movies have had.
I also think that the story itself was only fair -- maximum. There are numerous times where the movie begins to move at a slow snail's pace. During these scenes, like I said earlier, I found myself paying attention more to my computer. Kids really don't care about a story except for one that can keep their attention. I honestly can't give you an age limit on an audience for this movie. But, if you are in your tweens or above, I would say skip this movie.
While Skrat the Saber Toothed Squirrel is still ineffectually trying to regain his precious acorn, the misfit trio of Manny the Mammoth, Sid the Sloth and Diego the Sabretooth Tiger have settled down in an isolated valley with numerous other animals. However, the trio discover that the ice wall surrounding the valley is barely holding back a massive body of water behind it and it's melting state threatens to break and flood the valley. With their one chance of survival being a boat at the other end of the valley, the trio follow the desperate exodus there. Along the way, they meet Ellie, a female mammoth who is convinced she's a opossum like her brothers. While the strange group continues the trek, they must learn to get along even as Manny struggles to find some connection to this strange female who may be the only other one of his kind.
The main problem with Ice Age: The Meltdown is that, like many movie sequels, it has no non-commercial reason to exist. The first Ice Age wasn't good enough to warrant a part two in the first place, and this one has nothing to add to it -- its story is corny (featuring another road trip-like journey, a trite romance, and some annoying new characters), its old characters aren't given anything interesting to do (my favorite one, Diego the sabertooth, was given a generic face-your-fear subplot and otherwise cracks wise and spits asides), and all of that gets upstaged by the only character anyone wanted to see return, namely the acorn-chasing prehistoric squirrel Scrat. And yet the whole venture isn't a total loss -- if there's any reason to watch it, it would be its technical merits. The graphics work here is very impressive -- I don't remember the first Ice Age looking this good, but here the movement of the characters are fluid and believable while retaining essential cartoon physics, and the fur looks so good that a sequence where a few of the mammals get wet becomes a major highlight. If the animation studio Blue Sky has proven anything so far (they also did Robots), it's that they're big league visual artists, but frankly pedestrian when it comes to stories. Get a good writer in there and I'll honestly look forward to their future creative endeavors.

Ok. This movie was just a "the first one did good we will try to get more money by making another one!" film. Terrible, the first one was OK. That all I have to say about it.
Just like the first movie Scrat is the bets character and he does not say a word. All the same this is a fun movie that keeps you entertained even if you see it multiple times.
it was exquisity tasteful filled with humor and drama and i am gonig to be generous and give it 8,5 out of 10 possible and i bid you good day and with my dearest goodbyes i say farewell
Not as engaging or interactive as the original, this meltdown shows that tried and true methods don't always work. It has its moments and the romantic touches provide a change of pace.
lol yes this film is funny special the squrriel they are thinking of making a film just about him but no more has been said as of yet so watch out for him in the near future if he has one lol really good film family fun xxx
Great followup to the first Ice Age, I think I actually like this one better. That squirrel is hilarious, the movie had me cracking up throughout... what a fun film. Be sure to see the short film included on the disc, my entire family almost died laughing from it!
