its about a group of scientist who find a frozen caveman. Turns out after they unfreeze him, that he is still alive and they put him in an artificial jungle. Not a dummy, the caveman or it would be more accurate to mention that its a Neanderthal cause he's been frozen for 40 000 years, but he does understand that what surrounds him isnt genuine. An anthropologist tries to make contact with him
ICEMAN (1984)
directed by Fred Shepisi
starring Timothy Hutton, John Lone, Lindsay CrouseNo. Its not a film about the X-Men character, nor is it a Top Gun spinoff with Val Kilmer. Iceman is pretty much plotless, its about a group of scientist who find a frozen caveman. Turns out after they unfreeze him, that he is still alive and they put him in an artificial jungle. Not a dummy, the caveman or it would be more accurate to mention that its a Neanderthal cause he's been frozen for 40 000 years, but he does understand that what surrounds him isnt genuine. An anthropologist tries to make contact with him and thats pretty much what happens in the film.Iceman doesnt really have any good scientific values but its an interesting variation on the Tarzan theme. It came out not too long after Jean-Jacques Annaud's La guerre du feu and the same year as Hugh Hudson's Greystoke, seems like people had a fascination about those man from another era who lived closer to animals than humans.
Timothy Hutton was a young man who had just won an Oscar and this was a good project for him. He delivers a fairly good performance despite his laughable hairdo. John Lone as the caveman is quite impressive. He is really commited to his character and manage to keep it serious for the entire movie, it never becomes ridiculous or laughable.
Iceman is a little slow at first but its got an interest subject and manages to keep the viewer's interest until the end. The soundtrack is pretty good and there are even some moving moments. Nothing amazing but surprisingly good despite being a bit naive.
A daft proposition, but lets hope it's a lot better than the so called "comedies" of this sub-genre (sci-fi, bringing someone or something to life that was buried in the ice for thousands of years) sounds like a worthwhile possibly enjoyable waste of a couple of hours.

Thoughtful movie. Other than the obivious impossibility of bringing a long frozen corpse back to life, the situational stuff plays realistically.
Iceman is much more a drama than a science fiction film, but as a drama it is very effective indeed. The film takes an essentially simple premise and expands it into an engrossing story about the meeting of cultures and what it means to be human.

Really liked this movie when I saw it years ago. Timothy Hutton used to be one of my favs. Nice little movie to catch on a lazy afternoon.
this is by far one of the most moving, inspirational, dramas ever. highly recomended. the movie at times can seem s abit slow, but it delivers in the end. well worth the watch.
