A great plot, but it moves in a very slow way.

Wow. Just wow. One of the most beautiful, and at the same time, funny, films I've ever seen... Just amazing. =D

Since 2003, I have been a HUGE hater of Colin Farrell. And that's an understatement. I refused to watch anything with him in it and if I did every time I saw his face, my hand would go up to the screen to cover his face. When he was in magazines, I would scribble the hell out of ...( read more)his face. I dreamt about him annoying me and me covering my face so as not to look at him.

So I put this off for ages (it was in the Top 250). One day I decided to just get it over with. After the first 5 minutes, I had taken my hand away from the screen and had forgetten it was Colin Farrell I was watching. I was extremely surprised to find that it was really amazing.

It was funny, it progressed well and very surprisingly, Colin Farrell was amazing. I never thought I would ever say that, and as awesome as the movie is, it's still hard to admit that I like a Colin Farrell movie this much and thought he was good after years of hating the dude.

Basically, all I have to say is SEE IT. It is seriously amazing.

A very funny, and in someplaces, quite an emotional film. Seeing this makes me think that Farrell should do a lot more comedic roles, because he's just on eof those actors i can never take seriously, however i think this character suited him perfectly, and i really hope he survived.

In Bruges had a drastically different atmosphere overall and even the fans of the genre could not perceive it. Those who could are complaining about the whole film except for Farrell's exceptional performance and the climax. The city of Belgium is used as an environmentally gothi...( read more)c background for unleashing a sensational brief dose of dark humor, a not-so-common screenplay and a powerful punch in the stomach right in the moment when we least expect it. It is different and somewhat audacious; the pace was perfect and the movie itself makes a spoof about the gangster honor code!

After years of movies someone made a film...
  • November 22, 2009
Brutal and sad. Solid performance by Ferrell.
  • November 18, 2009
This film so near rises above the level of just an intelligent rollercoaster ride, so damn near. A real shame. Only a few strokes could have sealed the deal. But even in falling short, it does so in a genuinely spectacular fashion with quite a lot going for it.

Loved this from start to finish. Superb acting, great plot, and some great dark humour. Recommend this to anyone.

One of the best this year. It's absurdly funny, but also knows when to be serious. Colin Farrell gave a really good performance, hopefully he'll stop doing shitty blockbuster types and stick to good acting jobs. I loved how much he hated Bruges and never missed a chance to call i...( read more)t a horrible place. It was just a really good and also enjoyable movie.

This film is amazing. I can't tell you how many times i've watched it and can still crack up at its many dark, dark humor moments.

(mi manca Bruges e vederla in un film mi ha fatto uno strano effetto. non mi aspettavo un film del genere, sono rimasta piacevolmente colpita. ma la musica trash durante l'inseguimento potevano evitarla ç_ç)

A really enjoyable watch. The dialogue is great with plenty of funny lines. The story-line is easy enough to follow without being tedious. In fact, it remains engaging throughout. Colin Farrell is the star of this film with his witty remarks and likable ways. Brendan Gleeson and ...( read more)Ralph Fiennes also deserve a mention though for their roles.

A really enjoyable, dark, wierd film. An instant favourite

Mad-Eye Moody, Fleur Delacour, and Lord Voldemort -- all assembled again for a magical movie. Excellent. I kept thinking that Gleeson would fly at the end. Sadly, both he and my hopes for his miraculous salvation sunk equally as fast as the pull of gravity.

...( read more)e a happy -- a fairy tale -- ending for someone who kills an innocent person? I don't think so. At least not in the literature with which I'm familiar.

Some very powerful performances in this hitman-buddy-road movie -- maybe the best thing Colin Farrell has ever done. Lots of funny scenes and lines in this one, and that helps a lot to offset the rather grim reality of the lives lived in this story.

If I were directing this one, I'd lose the flashback to the killings in the church. It would be more interesting, for me, to have the details of that blundered hit be revealed bit by bit through snatches of dialog at key moments.

Exceptional humor and dialogue. The first half is flawless, the second half ruins the fun a bit, but not completely.
  • October 29, 2009
Much, much better than I expected. In Bruges is not another action-comedy that sucks the life out of a genre established by Quentin Tarantino. This is a well-paced, sharply written character piece that integrates elements of black comedy and bleak tragedy. The acting all around i...( read more)s fantastic, especially from Colin Farrell in an immensely demanding role.

I actually watched this right after I left Bruges. It was crazy to see the places I had been. I thought it was pretty good, but like had a random unexpected ending that I don't think was great.

Wasnt as good as the previews for it

Ray: "After I killed him, I dropped the gun in the Thames, washed the residue off me hands in the bathroom of a Burger King, and walked home to await instructions. that was a nice way to start a movie , this is a very awesome dark comedy film that i enjoyed and loved the acting of Colin Farrell - he deserved his award - his character ( Ray ) is a character i'll remember for a long time , God he hated Bruges , i like how he talks about midgets ....

This is an amazing film. For those who enjoy subtle humor with a great story and dark undertone, I highly recommend this movie. Brilliant performances by all the characters. Definitely one of the underdogs of 2008.

In Bruges is a strange film. Often seen as comedy and I suppose it is but it is very black. When this film is funny, it is so darkly funny but it takes a strange twist and you find yourself watching an intense thriller with powerful and emotional drama underlying it.

Full of f...( read more)antastic performances, we see Farrell at his best. Probably one of the most under rated and undeservedly slated actors out there, along with Jude Law. Ralph Fiennes is only present by voice in the first three quaters but is given a massive part when the story takes a the sudden twist becoming another of the films leading actors and that is for the best as he is fantastic. Brendan Gleeson is also brilliant. He steals several of the more dramatic scenes.

The screenplay and directing by Martin McDonagh was amazing. The screenplay was nominated for an Oscar but unfortunately lost out to Milk. How often does a screenplay like this come along? One that is so perfect with dialogue and events? It should have won for the fact it is as original as it is going to get. One of the best screenplays out there along with Pulp Fiction and The Big Lebowski. It shares the rare brilliance of those and it deserved more of a recognition than just a nomination.

In Bruges is not a film to miss. Darkly funny, twistedly real. Fantastic.

What a refreshing surprise! This is one of the only films I've seen where the label 'Dark Comedy' is actually really fitting. I really liked it, in fact, it?s now got to be one of my favourite films! Original entertaining film set in Bruges, which is a Belgian town. As a Belgian it's enjoyable to see a good film set in a familiar background.

Enjoyed this film very much, darkly funny at times.

What happens when two hitmen have to lay low for a while in a city no one has ever heard of. They have to find ways to spend their time and deal with personal issues. I would identify this film as a black comedy drama. Collin Farrell gives one of his best performances to date, Br...( read more)eandan Gleeson shows us what a veteran actor is cabable of doing. Ralph Fiennes takes a break from "Harry Potter" and returns to his Indie roots. Even with minimal screen time he gives an unforgettable performance as the Boss man Harry. A well written and directed film with a kooky supporting cast. I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up during Oscar time."In Bruges" is an unmissable Indie gem. Its out on DVD now, add it to your queue, you won't regret it.

A smart, witty, very funny and boundry pushing thriller, wraps up alot of what you'd like to see in a film and doesn't stick to the conventional plot points of other thrillers. Fast paced, excellent exchanges and a thrilling ending that you won't see coming.
  • September 18, 2009
Bloody Hilarious at some points, and yet very much not so in others.
It is a fairytale insofar that the love match works out well.
The film while essentially about nothing is still quite entertaining.
And i liked the town; much better than the crappy cities in australia.

  • September 8, 2009
Not what I thought it would be like, but a very good movie anyway.
  • September 7, 2009
Dark humour, violent and aimed squarely at the cult market. I left the theatre with an unpleasant taste in my mouth thanks to the third act, but I'll admit that some of the comic parts have stayed with me for a few days.
  • September 4, 2009
that is a cool movie, right there.

bad with excessive profanity for my taste that didn't help the plot...

Amazing. A movie like this should probably be terrible, but it isn't. At all. It's brilliant! I love Colin Farrell, who was absolutely stupendous and hilarious, especially when high on coke. I also adore the last lines of the film, which probably amount to my favorite movie quote...( read more) of all time. "There's a Christmas tree somewhere in London with a bunch of presents underneath it that'll never be opened. And I thought, if I survive all of this, I'd go to that house, apologize to the mother there, and accept whatever punishment she chose for me. Prison... death... didn't matter. Because at least in prison and at least in death, you know, I wouldn't be in fuckin' Bruges. But then, like a flash, it came to me. And I realized, fuck man, maybe that's what hell is: the entire rest of eternity spent in fuckin' Bruges. And I really really hoped I wouldn't die. I really really hoped I wouldn't die."

O que falar? foge totalmente dos estereotipados filmes de assassinos, você se apega a um ator que mata uma criança, torce por ele, ri dos diálogos e ainda cria um desafeto pelo chata e pacata bruges. Assistam.

A refreshingly unpredictable, darkly comic and curiously haunting odyssey of two hit men, the film is a mercurial amalgam of genres and emotions set in an appropriately strange, archaic fairy-tale city. Politically incorrect humour, in Belgium, with violence. Features Ralph Fiennes as Ben Kingsley
