Abdul Ahmad, Enayatullah, Hiddayatullah

Jamal and Enayat are cousins. Jamal, the younger of the two, is an orphan; he lives in a refugee camp and spends his days working at a brickworks. Enayat sells electrical goods at his father's market ...( read more  read more... )stall. Enayat's family is sending him to England to have a shot at a better quality of life. Thanks to his powers of persuasion and his knowledge of English, Jamal is allowed to accompany his cousin on his journey to Great Britain. After an initial attempt fails, they eventually manage to cross the border from Pakistan into Iran, hidden on buses and lorries. From Teheran they travel through Kurd country on foot and over the mountains into Turkey. Theirs is an old smugglers' route--once part of the Silk Road, it is now used to smuggle car parts, oil, opium and tobacco to the West. The two cousins arrive in Istanbul, where a whole new world opens up before them.

Revealing, studied window into people migration from Pakistan to the UK. Humbling sacrifice at every turn gets you routing for the leads and challenges you to question your views on immigration.

An interesting blend of documentary/drama which is an inspiring tale of two family members traveling from Afghanistan to London. This documents a truely remarkable friendship to make even the greatest buddy movies seem rubbish. It has heart and brings a certain freshness to the s...( read more)creen.

Running at a taut 88 minutes, In This World races the characters along their long and arduous road. At times, this brutal non-narrative travelogue seems to wander from its destination -- though it clearly builds to a harsh emotional peak at the climax. A pitch-black 40-hour freig...( read more)hter journey to France, lit only by flashlight, plays like one of Edgar Allan Poe?s descents into madness. And a climactic, fleeting return to Afghanistan plays as a montage of children?s faces looking into the camera, mostly smiling and mostly curious. This purely emotive moment of beauty, operatic in its glory, plays out against the harsh and uncompromising plight that has been the rest of In This World. Winterbottom serves up his angry message through clenched teeth, and then in a series of close-ups he manages to touch our hearts and souls. It defies you to remain unmoved.

Amazing, shocking movie. A true human document. But it is merely representative of the many such stories that happen every day in this cruel exploitative business of people smuggling. Must-see.
