The best "Indiana Jones" adventure in years! Fun, exciting, exhilarating, funny, & overall entertaining! Welcome back, Indy!

I finally got to see this on one of the movie channels we get thru our cable package. Some typical Indy scenes, some physical impossibilities (those giant ants for one, and the way they behaved), and some good FX. But this last installation didn't make that big an impact on me....( read more) Because a week later, I couldn't remember the movie I'd watched (that being the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull).

Right. Where do I start. Well, Shia LaBeouf was not half as annoying as I thought he would be but his Tarzan antics nearly made me throw my pop corn at the screen, as much of the film did. It all started so well too! It?s the 1950's and Indy is still getting into trouble and as t...( read more)he theme tune blared out of the speakers I felt like a 12 year old again. The object cameo of the Ark was a nice touch and the tribute to the late, great Denholm Elliott in the form of a rather nice portrait was great too......and then the sentiment was smashed to pieces with a statue of him being beheaded. It all goes downhill from here. Mr. Lucas and Mr. Spielberg are a couple of old men who got lucky early in their careers but neither of them seem to be able to better their younger selves, reverting to recycling their already, tired portfolio of ideas. None of the actors did a particularly amazing job and although the special effects are the best I?ve seen, ultimately they were part of a ridicules, preposterous and just damn stupid story! STOP KILLING OUR CHILDHOOD FAVOURITES HOLLYWOOD, YOU BASTARD!!!!!

First off, classic Indy. Entertaining to watch, yet their are many holes in the story and many questions left unanswered. It hardly explains the point of the storyline, the aliens. But yet, it is a good movie for raw entertainment and I enjoyed it as such.

Functional sequel lacking the Indy magic. Ford looks bored and shows none of the charm and wit which distinguished the series. It sticks closely to the winning formula other than this (vehicle chases etc) but is derailed by Lucas' ludicrous alien skull plot device. LaBeouf has po...( read more)tential as a replacement though.

INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL (2008)
    dir. Steven Spielberg
cast. Harrison Ford, Cate Blanchett, Shia LaBeouf

«For an old guy, you ain't bad in a fight.»

Indiana Jones is back, and already people are hating his return, while others love it. I

...( read more)m in between, not loving, not hating. I like the plot but it doesnt seem to suit an Indiana Jones movie. I like the stunts, which are actually extremely spectacular, but I didnt feel the excitement I should have, after 19 years of absence. Still, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a fun ride for what it is.

The film begins and already I got the feeling I missed half an hour, thats no good. Indiana Jones was taken by the Russians - they are finally back, we havent seen them as villains in so long - he is supposed to help them find something which seems related to the events that occurred in Rosewell in the late 40's. Right away, anyone should understand the film has something to do with a possible alien artifact. Obviously, Jones gets away, and the Russians didnt get to find what they were looking for. Jones get fired as a teacher and plans to leave the country, until a young man ask for his help, to find his mother and a professor. Everything is related, in many ways, Jones goes down to South America, finds the artifact the Russians were looking for and has to run away from them before they use it wrongly.

In some ways, this film is a logical follow-up to the last film, which was released in 1989. Its set in 1957, 19 years prior to that, WWII was about to begin and since the world has changed, the world has evolved. Thats one of the reason I feel it doesnt fit an Indiana Jones movie, but, it does make sense so I have no real reason to complain.

Steven Spielberg said he wanted to shot his film on location rather than in front of blue screens, Im up for that. Unfortunately, there is still too much use of CGI in the film, even though, those special effects do look impressively great. There is a little too much self-awareness, with references to the previous films in the franchise and even other films by Spielberg himself, it almost became annoying.

Harrison Ford is getting old, so is his character, and they didnt try to make him younger. Ford proves why he became such a huge star, playing Jones once again perfectly, without falling into the campy performance or trying to reinvent him, he is simply just great and a lot of fun. Cate Blanchett is great as the main villain, Shia LaBeouf is surprisingly not annoying as Mutt Williams - with a predictable destiny - but even if Karen Allen's return is welcome, she seems to have much more fun than what her character asks for.

Filled with fun action, neat stunts and great visual effects, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a little bit disappointing. Maybe the hype was too big, maybe the wait was too long, maybe the film was simply not satisfying enough, or maybe everyone wanted it to be better than it could possibly be. Still, I didnt dislike it, I actually enjoyed it a lot despite its obvious flaws. It was well-shot, keeping the spirit of the previous films and the tone was just the same with some great humorous moments. The cast is having a blast, and that fun is contagious. I just cant say no more bad about this film. Ladies and gentlemen, Indiana Jones is back, and good news, John Williams's musical theme is still fun.
