The group decides their best bet is to head to neutral Switzerland where they can avoid the fighting and prison. As they make their way to what they think will be freedom, they end up volunteering for a commando mission to steal a V2 warhead for the French Underground. Somehow, the team must sneak into the most heavily guarded base in German territory, steal the Nazi's most precious military hardware, and bring it back to the allies without getting arrested again by their own side.

You can sure tell it's a Quentin Tarantino movie -- Not a happy ending in any sense -- and nothing I would buy to add to my collection -- That said, and despite the gross parts of the movie, It was well done and I kindof enjoyed it -- Brad Pitt couold be a garbage collector and h...( read more)is acting would be sterling -- Don't take the kids or don't go if you have a weak stomach --

A true gem from the 1970's exploitation industry, I vowed to watch this one first before going to see Tarantino's reworking. And honestly, I hope Tarantino's is good, because this one did set a bar for independant films back in the day, and if you liked it well, its because the "...( read more)Spaghetti" crew were making it. XD Italians make good movies apparently, ie: Spaghetti westerns.

Anyways, Bo Svenson and Fred "The Hammer" Williamson lead a group of army prisoners on a flight to freedom, stumbling into one problem after the other as they try to make their way to Switzerland. But unfourtanently, they become entangled in special operation, with no way out unless they can steal the new V2 warhead technology from the Germans and escape before the Germans OR the Allies fnd them first.

Action packed, laced with 70's coolness and humor, don't be fooled by it's cheap makeup and simplicity, its actually well made, each character has their own story and the ending is a mix of fate, love and death and very abrupt, which was melancholic but effective to what is a very violent movie.

Its a simple movie, no thinking required, but I thought it was great viewing and some good acting, a good job done on a small budget with more skill and acting ability and action direction.

    Enjoy!

Quel maledetto treno blindato (aka Inglorious Bastards) has risen from the ranks of the rest of the obscure Italian made, American acted cheapies first of all because of Quentin Tarantino's reverence for the film and the fact that he plans to a remake of sorts under the same titl...( read more)e; second of all even though Tarantino's word is enough PR to get any obscure film to raise from the depths of the unknown into popular culture, it wouldn't work if the film wasn't any good. No problem there because this film is superb.

A group of soldiers are rounded up in a truck to be court-martialled. On the way to their destination, a German fighter jet opens fire on the Americans. Five soldiers get out and make a run for it. Now as fugitives they are on the run from both the Americans and the Germans as they battle their way to the Swiss border to freedom.

This film is a little known masterpiece that embodies the traits of a very pedestrian style war film. There is no technical war idioms which are common to the genre, the dialogue is cool and hip. This is basically the sort of war film that I would have made because unlike the typical other films in the genre, they are not really out to defend their country, only themselves. There is nothing to dislike about this film at all. Highly recommended.

A heck of a lot of fun. Cheesy and hard to take seriously at times, but it didn't matter. The entertainment value is there in this WW2 impossible mission performed by a ragtag group of unlikely heroes scenario.

The framework is there for Tarantino to make a genuinely exciting ...( read more)film.

The music score kept making me think of Krull for some reason.
