This film kinda flew under the radar where I was, so I probably wouldn't have paid much attention to it, if it hadn't been for me remembering the book. It takes liberties to turn what is the first installment in a trilogy into a standalone story, but manages to do it incredibly w...( read more)ell.
I enjoyed this movie incredibly. It was well acted, with charming characters that I appreciated watching. I'm hoping for sequels.

I'd have to agree on this with most Flixster fans, it is definitely dedicated for the younger population, but the kid in everyone might at least find it enjoyable. The idea is captivating from the very beginning, the action and the effects are good too, but probably the most impo...( read more)rtant thing in this movie is the magic and when magic tale beasties are involved you might doubt the very essence of the movie, totally not the case here, maybe cuz it's Brendan Fraser and he's the likeable sort and the fact that after his part in LOTR series i will never be able to see Andy Serkis other than Gollum, i kept waited for him to say.."my precious" which was fun...for me.
Ok so not sure if i'd watch it again too soon but someday sure, why not. Enjoy!

Brandon Fraser plays someone called Mo 'Silvertongue' Folchart , he has the power to bring to life whatever he reads from a book called "Inkheart"
Nothing special about the story, but the actors are doing a good job, making this movie a pleasing one. I liked Paul Bettanys chara...( read more)cter and the effects are good, but I think I've seen better lately.
Would've been better if the action unfolded in the place described by the book, that seemed really cool.

This book series holds a special place in my heart and I'm ecstatic they brought it to life (no pun intended) so vividly. Brendan Fraser as 'mo' was the only casting misstep I think the film took seeing how the rest of the casting was beyond perfect.

And Dustfinger......WOW! tha...( read more)t was one of the finest 'book to screen' portrayals I've seen as of late. They really couldn't have found anybody better for the beloved role. This just confirms the fact that Paul Bettany is one of the underated actors in Hollywood.

Interesting idea it is just a shame that all the good bits were in the trailer. I'm a sucker for fantasy films but this was just rather boring. Great idea with a good cast just the plot didn't pull together well and left me feeling that it could have been a whole lot better

There are so many things you could do with this idea, and so many effects that could be used... I completely drifted during this film because it could have been so much better. Pants.

    It was different.
Not the greatest adaptation of a book into a movie.
    The end was intense though.
  • October 12, 2009
Good movie. You truly get a different take on fairytales and literature, yet it has the form of a fairytale. Interesting to watch. Andy Serkis is good as the mean Capricorn. And Paul Bettany plays an interesting character.
Didn't read the book though so i don't know if it's bette...( read more)r or not.

It's an interesting premise to begin with, having the power to bring to life characters and events to the real world by just reading relevant passages. The trailer might have painted an epic adventure with boundless possibilities from plundering the premise, but too bad a lot of ...( read more)books got burnt from the start, leaving The Wizard of Oz the highlight of the lot. There are countless of villainous characters here, courtesy of the Inkheart book, that pepper the story, and they are the standard dumb goons. Surprisingly, a string of recognizable stars are involved in this movie, such as Helen Mirren playing Meggie Folchart's grand aunt Elinor Loredan and Jim Broadbent as Inkheart's author, who relished every moment of interacting with his characters, yearning for a chance to try and get into the book because whatever glimpses he had over in the real world, was an orgasmic walk into his own imagination, as he quipped. Inkheart is like an adult fairy tale and could have been like Stardust, with its star power and unique premise. A pity though that it was delivered rather plainly and had neither the depth nor anything unexpected to ruffle what essentially was a one-way train going through the motions on its tracks from start to end.

Mo Folchart (Brendan Fraser) is what is known as a "Silver Tongue". He is able to read any book and make the characters inside come alive. The problem is, when he does that, something around him gets sucked into the book. That's how the story starts off and the first person to ge...( read more)t sucked into a book he reads aloud happened to be his wife. Since then, his life centers around finding the book in which she is trapped in.

Quite possibly the weakest role from Brendan Fraser, even though the book was actually based on him. I thought the general idea of the film was inventive, but lacked a certain element. The quickening plot with no interesting character buildups completely killed it for me. It had a couple of great special effects, most notably The Shadow, the supernatural villian in Inkheart. Let's hope the sequel Inkspell improves dramatically.

this one, you gotta wonder. good but crazy

Was a bit disappointed after reading the book and then watching the movie...but still not bad overall.
