Known as the Coen's first commercial film, which isn't entirely accurate. It certainly didn't have the same feel though, and it certainly wasn't up to their usual standards. That said, it really wasn't as bad as everyone said, the chemistry between Zeta-Jones and Clooney is elect...( read more)

although this film is a bit more panned than most coen films, i dont feel that the criticisms are deserved. this is definitely not a run of the mill romantic comedy. it was phenomenally well written, well shot by deakins, and well performed by each of the actors. a worth while...( read more)

Funny comedy about a divorce lawyer falling for a gold digger. Great chemistry between George and Catherine. George is brilliant at the slapstick comedy. Billy Bob Thorton was good.

Great and funny. Clooney is really good here although not as good as in O brother where art thou..
Critic Reviews
No different from most of the other dumb slapstick spoofs that pass for screwball comedy these days. full review
Not brilliantly funny nor incisively clever, Intolerable Cruelty is still moderately satirical and laugh-out-loud enjoyable. full review
If Intolerable Cruelty establishes one thing, it's that George Clooney is the closest thing that contemporary Hollywood has to an old-fashioned matinee idol. full review
Joel and Ethan are bounteously gifted filmmakers, but sometimes you just want them to lay off the irony and climb down here with the groundlings. full review
Clooney is definitely the man of these two hours. His portrait of a shark in love is a model of classy comic acting. full review
There are laughs here aplenty, and sexy, goofy, off-the-cuff charm. full review
Intolerable Cruelty isn't half as clever as most Coen films ... but it's much more likable. full review
