In a mythical South American city that resembles Buenos Aires, word has been passed that a gang of outsiders plans to storm the city and take control. A handful of agents acting under the authority of the powerful Don Porfirio (Juan Carlos Paz) set out to stop them, dashing about the city while their enemies give chase. Invasion was the first feature film from director Hugo Santiago, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jorge Luis Borges (Borges collaborated on the original story with Adolfo Bioy Casares). Shot on location in Buenos Aires in 1969, all prints of the film were thought to have disappeared in the mid-1970s (supposedly at the orders of the Argentine government, unhappy with the film' political allegories), but an archival copy was discovered in the 1990s, and the film was restored for DVD release and film festival presentations in the 21st Century. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
