For some reasons my Wife does not like Robert Downey Jr.
I enjoy watching Movies based upon Comics with her. Unfortunately I will have to watch Iron Man without her. -
A surprisingly good flick! The main character is the best feature, and Downey Jr. plays a big part in that. The climax was not that climactic, but you're left wanting more.

Iron Man (2008)
Directed by Jon Favreau
Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges«Tony Stark: [reading the newspaper] Iron Man? That's kinda catchy.»
Tony Stark is a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who is kidnapped and forced to build a devastating weapon. Instead, using his intelligence and ingenuity, Tony builds a high-tech suit of armour and escapes captivity. When he uncovers a nefarious plot with global implications, he dons his powerful armour and vows to protect the world as Iron Man.
Iron Man was touted to be a good film from the start, but boy; I didn't expect it to be "that" good. It is primarily good because of its stunning special effects. Now, those who are familiar with Iron Man comic book or even those who have seen the TV series will know what I am talking about. For others who are not familiar with Iron Man, this film has a strong storyline that shows briefly how Tony Stark came up with the Iron Man suit and why did he actually decided to create it. You will also see a man who decided to change his life, in order to fight against evil and help all those innocent people from getting killed. Sounds familiar? Yes, the story is not original but it is well delivered.
The plot is a typical superhero story; a guy who uses his talent for doing something completely irrelevant or something that only makes his life better, (creating weapons of mass destruction and selling them worldwide in this case) but after a terrible situation that put his life in danger opened his eyes, and so he decided to use his knowledge by helping humanity and protecting civilians from the bad guys. Only one difference to most of the other super hero flicks: just like Batman, Iron Man doesn't have any super powers. He is a normal man, only he is extremely good at machinery and engineering. He is a genius. So, while Tony Stark has being attacked by terrorists, he was brutally injured by his own weapon during the attack. This made him realise that he wasted his life by creating something that takes lives of innocent people. After the incident, he constructs a suit which will help him escape from his kidnappers an later on; he will create a much better version of this suit, in order to protect people around the world. But unfortunately for Tony, there is someone that wants to stop him from helping people, someone who only wants to earn money by causing other people deaths, and therefore Tony Stark must face this person and stop him from killing him and everyone else.
Robert Downey Jr. Plays Tony Stark. A thing about playing a superhero in the movie like Spider-Man or X-Men is that people will remember you for your role, no matter how well or bad you performed in this movie. Robert most certainly will be remembered as one of the best actors to play a superhero. He did ever so great; he acted as a typical jackass millionaire at the start of the movie, but later on he changed, he became more responsible and grateful for things he could have achieved if he was using his knowledge in a good way. He was witty, hilarious and the way he said all of his dialogues, all that was fantastic. He handled the role well, even though he is older that Tony Stark. Gwyneth Paltrow played Tony's fiancé Pepper Potts. She and Robert had a lot of mixture between them, they looked great together and their dialogues were often hilarious yet romantic. Terrence Howard played James Rupert Rhodes, a close friend of Stark and his future superhero partner War Machine. Terrence were good in his role, even though at times he looked a bit out of place, he was generally fine and even funny at times. Even though we don't get to see him as War Machine, we get a hint that he will definitely use the suit in the next Iron Man movie. Finally, Jeff Bridges plays Obadiah Stane, Tony's business partner and later his primal enemy of this film, Iron Monger. Jeff is extremely good as a bad guy, I can guarantee that you will dislike his character after the first time you see him in the movie.
Most of the superhero movies are famous for its special effects but this one had more than that. The dialogues were really good; they are brilliant throughout the whole movie. Cinematography is great, the light mixture is good and it is easy to watch the whole movie without moving your eyes away from the screen.
Overall, Iron Man movie is a pleasure to watch, especially on the big screen. While most of the superhero movies don't have what it takes to be called "super", Iron Man rose beyond expectations and quite easily became one of this year's best superhero movies. A massive credit to John Favreau for creating this stunning film that can be truly remembered as one of the best in its category.

This is my favorite marvel movie. The action, acting, and story were all top notch. Robert Downey Jr. was perfect as Iron Man, and Jeff Bridges was kick ass as Iron Monger.

The film is a joyride, a shining example of great summer popcorn fare. The cast is fantastic, and their enthusiasm for the project translates to the spirit of the adventure onscreen. Because the characters seem to have greater depth and complexity than the story explores, the film gives the impression of having only scratched the surface (warranting much anticipation for a sequel), but that is not necessarily a bad thing. The film is nimble and quick but too smart, too classy and too much fun to be called "lightweight." It is equally entertaining and convincing, and it feels more like a great comic book come to life than any superhero film in recent memory. I eagerly await part 2.

The best Marvel Comic Book Adaptation you will ever see. It's the first of the 'Avengers Origin' Saga, and it's one of the best Origin stories you will ever see on the big screen.
-
A great flick for comic-lovers and non comic-lovers alike. It finds the perfect balance of action, drama, and humour, courtesy of the brilliant Robert Downey, Jr. Favreau's direction is sharp and three-dimensional, easily making 'Iron Man' the best super-hero film in ages.

Iron Man made me like the super hero movie again. I hated all those modest, kind, gentile alter egos that worked in the newspaper business. No, Stark was arrogant, to me one of the perfect alter egos.
-
funny violent with three wonderful performances from robert downey jr, jeff bridges and gwyneth paltrow

It's just about every shade of awesome. Robert Downey Jr. finally comes out of indie royalty to emerge as a major box office hit - and deservedly so. A wonderfully fun movie, with lots of action and surprisingly well done character development - and, how often do you get such a class act ending?
-
I saw this shortly after it came out and I was extremely impressed. The cast did a phenomenal job, Robert Downey Jr.'s performance was very engaging, and his portrayal of Stark was excellent. A must see.

It´s good. They couldn't have chosen a better Iron Man, Downy Jr. fitted perfectly, the same arrogance, attitude he is perfect for the part. the special effects are great and the character is so ironic that you laugh in a lot of parts just with the dialogue. Geneth I felt her just a little too weak, she appears very preety but I don't know her performance didn't convinced me a hundred porcent and that is wierd because she is a very good actrees. In my opinion I liked a little bit more transformers that is of the type but this movie is very good, you pass a very enjoyable time, you laugh, you get excited, is a very good cinema movie that you really appreciate when it ends, it's like if Fantastic Four was the wanabe of this one because this one develops very good the characters, the conflicts and everything else I really really enjoyd it.

While I normally dislike Robert Downey Jr., this role definitely fit his acting style well. The special affects looked crisp and were not overdone, the suite was pretty sweet-looking and the story was pretty good for the most part. That said, some parts of the movie were predictable and the film was certainly lacking depth (but it is based on a comic so what can you expect?) Good, solid film, but not great.

this was great!!! i so wish that i could fly like that! it was deafening though in theatres, i thought that it was louder than normal. Robert Downey Jr. was a fantastic Tony Stark! This being only the second movie with Gwyneth Paltrow in it, she acts the same for her characters. She has a different vibe of acting that i cant really describe. Its interesting, but not in a bad way, i guess. i just didnt like the war part and captivity, because taht is like what is going on right now in iraq, i think taht it is.

This movie rocked. I was a little concerned with Robert possibly having an issue, but it went swimmingly... Excellent job people!
-
Favreau did an excellent job making Iron Man and will make the next one even better i think... this film ushers in a new era of Marvel superhero movies... an era that everyone will be excited to witness, and be a part of

Holy Crap, true believers... This is the best comic book character movie since Spiderman, maybe better than X-Men 2 and Spiderman 2. I was happy the moment they announced Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark; to all they nay sayers, he was the best choice out there. Great movie... it's terrible how long we'll have to wait for the next one... but I'm patient.

Good techno Fun.
Good Political undertones and funny interesting charactors. Awesome sytle of effects. -
I didn't really have any expectations before seeing this, but loved it. Would've gotten 5 stars if the actions was a bit better, mainly the last fight.
-
I was more than satisfied with Iron Man. Action packed and a dose of comedy made Tony Stark the exact same way he was intended to be. Robert Downey Jr. better be in Iron Man 2. It's his role, and no one else can do a better job.
-
ne of the best super hero films I ever saw, at least until 2 months latter when I saw the Dark Knight. Robert Downey Jr, is a excellent actor, I just wish it didn't take a Marvel Block Buster to realize it. The special affrcts are next to mind blowing followed by a very good script, that will tie into the Incredible Hul and the Avengers Film.
-
Just a fantastic movie. The script was great, the action was awesome and Rober Downey Jr was the only choice to play Tony Stark.
-
I was so glad this movie was as good as the ads stated. Great cast and no slow points in my opinion. They kept close to the comic origins and being an old comic fan I was grateful for that. Looking forward to a 2nd movie and the upcoming Avengers.
-
Action Packed... one of the best super heroe movies ever. Robert Downey plays the part well and the technology is great! 2 metalic thumbs up!
-
Robert Downey was great, which is good because the villain was stale and the rest of the cast were collecting a paycheck.
