"Do not attempt this at home"

Johnny Knoxville and his crew of fun-loving masochists bring their routines to the big screen in this feature adaptation of the popular but controversial MTV series Jackass. A crew of young men perform a variety of strange, painful, and often...( read more) humiliating stunts for the amusement of themselves and those around them, including crawling across dozens of mousetraps while wearing rodent make-up, being rolled down bowling lanes on skateboards, racing in golf carts across an ancient driving range, giving themselves self-inflicted paper cuts, making snow cones out of urine, tightrope walking over live alligators, using uninstalled sanitary plumbing in a hardware store, terrifying Japanese pedestrians while wearing panda costumes, and much, much more. Johnny Knoxville, the show's creator and star, returns to head up this movie version of Jackass, along with series regulars Bam Margera, Ryan Dunn, Chris Pontius, Steve-O, Dave England, Jason "Wee Man" Acuna, Preston Lacy, Ehren McGhehey, and Brandon DiCamillo; Henry Rollins, Tony Hawk, and Spike Jonze are among the movie's guest stars.

    Review
This is not really a movie, more a highlight reel of the best/worst stunts and pranks that this group of nutters and pain junkies have done. I laughed, almost cried. Some parts are quite shocking and sick that it had the camera man hurling his lunch as well as the audience squirming in their seats.

I would not recommend this movie to my grandmother but if you have a bunch of friends with low morale standards and they like a good laugh you will have a great night out.

  • November 16, 2009
If you're able to look past the sheer stupidity of these guys, it's actually a very funny film. I'm almost embarrassed to admit I enjoyed it, but I did.

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

It's not exactly stupid. Cynical might be a better word. full review

A.O. Scott, The New York Times

Like a documentary version of Fight Club, shorn of social insight, intellectual pretension and cinematic interest. full review
