Jade Warrior is set in ancient China early iron age and present day Finland. The past is feeding the story in present day, slowly revealing our warrior his real origin, his superior skills and his destiny. Jade Warrior - the first Finnish Kung Fu film - combines Finnish and Chinese mythologies into one film. Jade Warrior is an homage to Kung Fu genre strongly spiced with a truly original approach to Finnish national epic Kalevala. Like Kalevala Jade Warrior is a pure melodrama. A story of Kalevala´s greatest hero.

Monumental let-down. The trailer was 10X better than the film.

Ultra-slow epic Finnish/Chinese story, partly in the past and partly in the present. The idea is brilliant.

It's like Highlander. The present-day stuff is nothing special but the parts in the past are nothing sho...( read more)rt of unforgettable.

Although the acting is ok, so little emotion is displayed by the actors that I felt pretty much none. And normally I love movies that throw you into a story and bide their time in letting you figure it out, but when you don't know what the story even is until the very end...AND it's this slow....that's a mistake. The second viewing will be better but...

So all-in-all: a clever story but all you get is a few gorgeous scenes in ancient China, and a whole lot of boring confusing poorly-shot stuff in the present.

A masterful film which successfully transcends genera! Mixed modern (Finland) and ancient / mythical (China) story threads are interwoven successfully, without question, while Finnish and Chinese mythologies are skillfully interwoven. The plot is compelling, and the cinematogra...( read more)phy and direction are breathtaking, with a perfect complimentary score. Action sequences are perfectly executed, and help move the story, with the fights shot and choreographed so as to express character emotions and thoughts, making each one completely unique. Highly recommended. (The only reason this film falls short of 5 stars is for one glaring and unforgiveable major plot hole, which detracts from the believeability of other well delivered character reactions.)

Not bad, the movie jumps around a bit, but everytime you learn something more that is important to the story line.

Artistic movie, most of my friends who've seen this did not understand the movie fully, but I loved it. Really artistic movie, which requires more than just sitting and watching, I would recommend this still to almost anyone.

The action scenes are bad. It was boring throughout the movie. The only good thing in this movie is the cute chick(Jingchu Zhang). Only Asian actors are suited for wuxia genre movies..

Sino-Finnish swordplay-romance time-travel fantasy-morality tale mish-mash. But I have to give, Finnish actor Tommi Eronen looks awesome in period costume.
