Stephen Hunter, Washington Post
If the reptile brain in you, that ugly little cluster of cerebral cells where all the destructive urges lie, needs a good jolt, Jeepers Creepers offers you just such a treat.
-
David Edelstein, Slate
The plotting is a tad generic, and the film feels long at a scant 90 minutes. But the movie is good enough to put a chill into the late-summer air.
-
Moira MacDonald, Seattle Times
Feels too rote to inspire real terror.
-
Bob Graham, San Francisco Chronicle
Jeepers Creepers is better setting things up than following through. It must resort to psychic mumbo-jumbo that has to be played straight and doesn't work.
-
Joe Baltake, Sacramento Bee
The first half of Jeepers Creepers is truly effective.
-
Tim Brayton, Antagony & Ecstasy
A good way to find some genuinely creepy moments in a decade where they were short in supply.
-
Felix Vasquez Jr., Cinema Crazed
One of the most terrifying horror movies to come along in years...
-
Lucius Gore, ESplatter
One genuinely gets the sense from the first hour of this film that Salva is exorcising some of his own demons.
-
James O'Ehley, Movie Gurus
One of those horror movies in which its characters do such unbelievably stupid things all the time that you literally want to shout at them.
-
Brian Mckay, eFilmCritic.com
The only thing about this movie that really made me shudder is that we are probably going to be deluged with a bunch of crappy sequels for it.
-
Tom Grealis, RTE Interactive (Dublin, Ireland)
As the plot hemorrhages from one dire encounter to another, the clichéd old psychic routine is used to explain the plot to anyone who might still care.
-
John R. McEwen, Film Quips Online
...Alternates between moments of sheer terror and ridiculously cheesy effects...

An exacting blend of stupid people doing stupid things versus the director's skill at keeping you watching, waiting, for the next big scare. It'll be up to you to decide whether the constant mind games are worth the trouble.

Not a joy ride. Void of creepers unless you count the one in the title. Don't get on board only unless you can't find nothing else to entertain you.

The Cat Lady: That's not my scarecrow.
"Fear takes a road trip."
First off, I should start by saying that every negative thing that has been said about Jeepers Creepers is totally justified. The characters are stupid(even by the genres standards), the movie tapers off after a terrific setup, and it falls into all to predictable jump scares and plot progression. With all that said, I still found it to be any enjoyable and cool horror film. I really did have a fun time watching it. It has just enough to keep it from being just another garbage, backroads horror movie.
What really keeps this movie alive Justin Long. He is a much better than the average actor that stars in a movie of this type. He keeps the movie watchable, even when it begins to breakdown. Also helping is a really cool villain. The Creeper has a great menace about it. It embodies what is great about a scary character. What's disappointing is that if the director hadn't have given a reason for what the Creeper was doing so early, it could have been even more effective. You never want to know too much about a character like this. I didn't really want a reason.
Victor Salva does pull off some really cool scenes, and he shows an eye for cool camerawork. I loved the scene where "Jeepers Creepers" played on the inside of the main characters car, as we see the Creeper jump on the top of the cop car that is following them. Another cool, if unimportant scene, is where the Creeper is throwing bodies into the back of his jeep. We just see his silhouette in the darkness, then he slams the door and we are left in pitch dark for awhile, waiting. Then it opens, we see him again and he throws an appendage of some sort in and slams it again.
Jeepers Creepers is one of those movies that I know isn't that good, but still it is a movie I enjoy and can watch multiple times. In order to like it you have to throw reasonable human behavior out the window, as these characters don't make one good decision throughout. Sometimes, they'll say what they should do, but...

Justin Long has his fair share of detractors, and I'm sure that there are even those who enjoy his acting, but even the most dedicated Justin Long fan will have to admit in his heart-of-hearts that his performance in "Jeepers Creepers" stinks. Long bears the expression of a toddler that's been kicked in the balls for much of the movie, with his frozen expressions, wide eyes and gaping mouth. Of course, as it usually is with these types of horror movies, the worse the acting, the more we root for the killer to get the heroes and the more we delight in their suffering. "The Creeper" (as he's known in some circles) is your typical horror monster in that he's super strong, super scary-looking and impossible to kill. He's your atypical horror monster in that he drives a sweet truck and gets off on smelling people's dirty laundry. A brother and sister (Long and Gina Philips) are driving across what is supposed to be North Dakota on their way to visit their parents when they're nearly ran off the road by the aforementioned truck. After this happens, well, I'm not really sure what is going on. A lot of people get killed and the kids have to escape from the Creeper because he wants them for some reason. It's a lot of your typical B-movie, horror gobblety-gook. Perhaps a better director could've made it creepier (when it comes to horror, plot isn't as important as atmosphere and pacing). Jeepers Creepers plays it all pretty safe and it never takes off into anything suspenseful or even really horrific. By the end, I didn't even care if Justin Long "got it" or not.

Just like the synopsis says, this movie had a promising start. I actually really liked it until the end when the monster got too sci-fi for his own good and killed the movie.
-
Freaky. Took me a while to be able to get past the bit were he is about to look down the dark black tunnel. Eventually I did and I was extremeley frightened. Horrifying.

If anything comes out with an original idea these days, I must give it an honorable mention. "Jeepers Creepers" has a quality to it with it's somewhat makeshift production and eerie premise. However, when I say makeshift, I don't mean there is necessarily anything of interest left out due to monetary restraints. Unlike it's sequel(I know, go figure), there's a unique feel to this one that is none other than creepy in it's way of bringing something different to the diners at the horror genre table. Crows are used in abundance adding an uneasy feel and a constant reminder of scattered, peckish ways.
The film follows an incessantly bickering brother and sister as they are road tripping home from college. They are harassed by a menacing looking truck for reasons unknown, and eventually run across the very same vehicle in a remote area where it's shrouded driver appears to drop a human body into an abandoned church drainage pipe. As they are curious like "they" generally are in films of this sort, things take a turn for the worst as they seem to be of great interest to who or what which can't seem to get enough of them.

Jeepers Creepers is a very different Horror film than what we are used to. Director Victor Salva creates a horror film with a unique monster, The Creeper, a boogeyman type of monster. The film is very intense, and terrifying, it brings elements of old school horror and the cast here do a good job. Jeepers Creepers is a well done film film withn an original story that will please horror fans that are tired with cliched heavy horror films of the late 90's. The film starts off with a bang with the truck attack , which echoes Steven Spielberg's Duel. Jeepers Creepers is a terrifying horror film and has many scares for the audience, and it will make you feel uneasy. I think that Jeepers Creepers has had unnecessary flack because it's viewed as a ccheap thrill horror film. I really don't think that this film deserves all the bad press it has gotten. Jeepers Creepers is one of the most memorable horror films of the decade and it's certainly a good one at that because IT IS not a remake, it's an original film!
After the really bad Horror films of the late 90s, this film is very refreshing in scaring you. It doesn't have the typical Scream horror clichés and its very enjoyable give it a chance; its really not a bad film at all. If you like boogeyman type films, the Jeepers Creepers is the type of film you need to watch. A very blood curdling film at times.

I enjoyed the conversation between the brother and the sister. Loads of slang that will make you laugh a bit. But the atmosphere gets scarier after sometime. The ending was sad. The yelling part seemed fake, Darry (Justin Long seemed like having fun in the Fifa Tournament (well it sounded like that). The Cat Lady looked more scarier than the Jeeper Creeper lol.

A surprisingly scary and well-made horror flick about a brother and sister who get caught in a sick and twisted killer's path. The villain in this movie is just downright scary, and the performances, especially from Long, elevate this film from being just another forgettable slasher film. It's smart, plotted well, and has a nasty little twist ending to boot. Recommended if you like these kinds of movies.

I've been reading the reviews for this film and have found myself sighing continually. Why? Because too many people take films like this far too literally. Like the reviewer who questions the characters decision to go back to the church. Hello, this is a horror film and if they weren't stupid we wouldn't have a movie. What were you expecting? Kubrick? Jeepers Creepers does exactly what it says on the tin. It's creepy, it's silly, and, if you can get over yourselves for a minute, lots of fun. Leave your brain at the door and have fun.

I enjoyed this for about half and hour, then it just got silly.
-
people either hate this movie once the monster reveals itself in "all its glory," or love it and their anxiety all the way through
-
Utter tripe. What was scary about this movie? It was really poorly done with all of the tension taken out due to the sheer stupidityof the characters involved. Die already morons.
-
It wasn't just the demon that was left unsatisfied with this movie. It wasn't bad but it could have done with having a higher certification and more gore.
