The more recent (and lesser) film version of Jesus Christ Superstar. To begin with, it lacks the wonderful setting of the original 1973 film (which was filmed on location), but this is something that can be overlooked if the overall quality of the production was up to scratch. Unfortunately, its not. While Ted Neeley has often been criticised for being a somewhat insipid Jesus, it actually seems more fitting to me that he be a slight man of Neeley's build, even if Glenn Carter here looks more like what we'd traditionally expect. But this is not the main problem; the biggest issue I have with this version is Jerome Pradon as Judas. Of course, most productions probably would just try to repeat the '73 version and get a soulful black guy to stand in Carl Anderson's shoes. So kudos for trying a very different tact. Unfortunately, Pradon is so whiny and grating in this film it is almost unbearable, especially when you remember these songs the way Carl did it back in the day. Carl Anderson's Judas was so cool he's right up there with Shaft, while Pradon's reminds me of those little dogs that 'yip yip yip' at your heels. As a whole the film is not necessarily bad - its passable I suppose, but there is certainly no comparison between the two versions.

The guy who played Judas was amazing. It's really good, and the music really rocks. It was refresghing to see "Jesus" sing like a rockstar.

A Really good musical! But the main reason why I love this is beacuse it's part of my roots, without this musical, i may not be here....scary....

One of the best musicals ever! It's highly addicting. Jerome Pradon is one of the best actors to play Judas.
