Joan the Maid 2: The Prisons (Jeanne la Pucelle II - Les prisons)
This French epic chronicles the life of Joan of Arc as she tried to get the French Establishment to grant her an army to fight the British with. The film is almost 6 hours long and was designed to be shown in two separate parts with patrons expected to buy tickets for each. This filmed version of the story meticulously reenacts her story with careful attention to accuracy. Throughout the film, witnesses address the camera directly and give additional information about the story.

Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"An original political response to Joan's plight."
‑ Dennis Schwartz, Ozus' World Movie Reviews
"Stripped of much of the incident that one would expect from an expansive biopic, but still remarkably satisfying, Rivette's two-film epic finds a psychological realism that's only enhanced by his unorthodox approach."
