A great re-telling of story and setting for a great history. Though there's a huge controversy for the history part of the story (which the whole point of the movie really was), Jodha Akbar is an ideal, Disney-ish version of the history therefore making it an entertaining, romant...( read more)ic movie. I'll definitely watch it over and over again.

i relay like this movie , but there are some great historical distortion there ...
the greatest is : the mughal prince is a relay bad name ! cause he was a great king of one of persian dynasties . maybe they have mughal genesis (after mughal invation years befor that) but they ...( read more)became musilm & they lived & ruled in persia for years .

Entertaining, great costumes, jewelry and few nice songs.Hrithik did a good job portraying Akbar. Of course it's not historically accurate,I know that is to be expected from an Indian film, but Ash's role is mostly fiction. Here are the facts about Jodha bai, even though that was not...( read more) her name during her life. Her birth name was Heera Kunwari,(born October 1,1542) was a Rajput princess, daughter of Raja Bharmal. She became wife of the emperor Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar and the mother of next emperor Nuruddin Salim Jahangir. Akabar did believe in religious harmony and gave her the choice to maintain her religion, diet and culture. But she actually converted to Islam by choice after studying it. Also,Islamic law does not permit marriage with Hindus without conversion. She wanted to make sure she was perceived as his real wife by the people and law. Her name after she converted was Mariam-uz-Zamani,it is even recorded in Mughal chronicles as such and why the mosque of this name was constructed in her honor.BTW,she wasn't forced to marry him, her father was very proud of the opportunity and so was she. Most women would be happy to marry a king. She is now referred to as Jodha Bai,although she was never known as such during her lifetime. This was mainly due to a mistake later by a British historian who confused her with another Rajput princess married within Moghals who was from Jodhpur. British have a habit of refering to people for their birthplace as if it is their name. (They do that even now.) Anyway, Akbar did believe in religious tolerance and did allow for Hindu temples to be built within the palace for his workers. He wanted to give importance to all religions. India was very strong, peaceful and financially stable during his time. His dream was for future Hindus and Muslims to truly get along and trust each other and work together to make India a better place. Unfortunately, it seems like that dream still hasn't come true, even to this day.

Hollywood ... eat your heart out! If you thought the "Age of Epics" were over -- pick this one up! It's in Hindi with English subtitles available ... so I hope you're a good speed reader. But the emotional range is as awe-inspiring as the filming is epic! If the regular DVD w...( read more)as absolutely a "must-see" ... I can't wait for the BluRay version to come out! My 52" Sony HDTV with surround sound was incredible with regular DVD -- BluRay? I'm installing seatbelts in my Lazy-Boy for that experience!!! Oh ... one final thought: NEVER give a woman a sword -- you just might regret it!

Rai is very hot, but I will most likely never see any of her Bollywood movies. If she does an American movie, I may consider watching it...

A great historical war drama with a love story included for added depth. It was good that it only had an occasional song, and they were well placed, so not to ruin the serious tone of a historical drama. As usual, everything is beautiful; sets, costumes, music. I enjoyed it, but ...( read more)was not as amazed as I often am by Bollywood movies. I found the politics of the story a little hard to follow, although that could be due to poor translation.

Interesting movie that gives you a glimpse of what India was like in 16th century. The love story was predictable but kinda sweet.
  • March 6, 2009
a very good movie.. but it is kinda bias because in the movie shows a lot of hindu's prayer but did not show any muslim prayer..

Magnificent historical movie, which is all right made and has good cinematography. It has lots of fans, but for me it was waste of time just as I expected. The director, Ashutosh Gowariker have made a couple of movies earlier, which I liked very well, but this time it?s not easy ...( read more)to understand what he has tried to make. Is it a love story? If so, the movie misses dramatic and inspiring love story moments. If it?s historical drama, it?s not that inspiring. This is Ashutosh?s least good work till date.

Long, but it doesn't feel so when you are watching it. It was okay, but I felt the war/fight scenes weren't interesting at all. Beautiful cinematography, a very beautiful film to watch.

Bollywood is like a Hollywood that doesn't take itself so seriously. As a result, the audience feels free to enjoy the same cheesy clichés that no longer work in American movies. Not to mention other merits: the marvelous production, the fabulous music, the creativity of the ba...( read more)ttle scenes and the paralyzing beauty of Aishwarya Rai.

This was an interesting take on the epic story of Emperor Akber and his romance with his wife Jodha Bai. The fight scenes were also very well picturised. Acting was also good and the debue of the new villain Niktin Dheer was great. Overall a good movie...

    Weelllll.
Lemme just say that I hated all the blood and shit.
There was a bit too much gore for a Bollywood movie.

But anyways, Hrithik and Aishwarya are the worst couple ever. They just do not look good.

And Aish's hair is just too long. It looks good when it's swaying in t...( read more)he air when she twirls around with that sword. But, still. Her hair is too long.

And I guess it was okay. It was absolutely boring at first but it got better when all the people got confused and stuff.
