The film itself was nothing special, but denzel raises the value of the film as usual.
while controversial, it genuinely does tackle some sensitive issues .. it may ask alot of questions and provide no answer, but it certainly helps draw attention to what is overlooked.
John Q. Archibald is an ordinary man who works at a factory and takes care of his family. His wife Denise and young son Michael are his world. But when Michael falls seriously ill and needs an emergency heart transplant operation that John Q. can't afford and his health insurance won't cover, he vows to do whatever it will take to keep his son alive. With time and options running out, a desperate gamble becomes his only hope--he takes the emergency room hostage. As John Q. barricades himself inside the hospital along with his unwitting group of emergency room hostages, many of them in need of medical care themselves, he faces off with a veteran police hostage negotiator and a quick-tempered police chief who both want to bring a swift end to the stand-off.
Alright so I just watched this, I had some tear drops. It was a brilliant movie and great acting. You can never go wrong with Denzel Washington. the story was original and the affects it had was tremendous.
Denzel Washington makes every film he's in look good. But he didn't need to for this one.Its plot was excellent. The suspense at the end was brilliant. This inspirational movie is a must see.
good movie great acting as always from denzel but i do have to disagree with the principle of the movie i understand it was a kid but people do die that's just life people without insurence needs to pay sorry i know it sucks but i work hard to have good insurence. i will give you that the hole medical system is bad and needs to be changed but for now this is it but i did enjoy the movie
Way too unbelievable, unrealistic and very silly. There are somme gripping, emotional moments, but still you can't take this movie seriously, which hurts it a lot.
Tragic are the hipocrisies, federal loopholes, and flat out lies of the government that affect only us and the benefits they recieve for our stress, money, and time.
Although higher reasoning would state that John Q. was a criminal who put several lives at stake for the sake of one life, I still found myself rooting for him. Denzel breathes incredible life into this character, and I absolutely believed that he was a father desperate to save his son's life. This film has everything: the story of a father's love, a politcally-charged crack at the American healthcare system, and one huge question of morals. Is it important that we do everything possible for our loved ones? Or do we keep the idea of everyone's safety in mind? That, indeed, is the question. Definitely a must-see.
good....good......good......movie......denzel and the rest of the cast did wonderful in this movie....this movie is somewhat true too and yet so sad how the hospital and health care will turn u away if u don't have insurance, little to none.....
Powerful...i love the storyline and really moves me when Denzel's tears rolling down with the emotions, wow!
With a cast like this--needless to say--the acting is topnotch.
i saw this movie in psych class. it makes that fat communist piece of shit michael moore look like he's got point about the sorry state of our health system. denzel did a good job though
In my opinion, this movie was fine. Not a good one or even spectacular tough. It's a decent one. Despite of the bad rating it has on Rotten Tomatoes, I thought this movie was a decent one. Well, some of the scene was copious I guess. From this movie, we can saw a one man show. And it's from Denzel Washington. I could feel his emotion from this movie. His action was good enough to raise this movie up. I really can't imagine if his role was represented by other actors (that has acting quality bellow him). The other cast wasn't strong enough to support him but thankfully it was Denzel. The main strength of this movie was located in it's dialog. I heard a lot of meaningful words from this movie. Some of the weakness of this movie was located on the hostages which John kidnapped in the hospital. And as I mention it before, some of the scene was too copious. The plot was fine (acceptable I might say). The first scene was leaving a big question mark to me, but as the movie goes by, I realize that was one of the key point from the movie. But in my opinion, they should tell the audience about the timeline from the first scene to the next one. After all, this movie was quite heart-melting and it was worth to watch.
By-the-numbers Hollywood fluff. The issues in the film are of course in complete black-and-white, and everyone, I mean _everyone_, gets a chance to redeem themselves. Yes, this film has a message to tell you about health care, and it doesn't care how much it fractures your skull by beating that message into your head over and over and over.
A gripping, exciting and emotionally charged edge of your seat thriller. It's ER meets Dog Day Afternoon. A very intense and moving film that has something to say. A magnificent all-star cast. Denzel Washington gives a powerful and unforgettable performance. Robert Duvall is teriffic. Ray Liotta is electric. James Woods is excellent. Anne Heche is marvelous.
Touching, heart-wrenching even. One of the most provocative films I've ever seen, Denzel is naturally outstanding in his role as a father that will do anything it takes. The suspense is almost tangible and the drama is done right.
another great role for washington, and another great film, for me to watch, i can always count on denzel to produce, mind boggling films, ones that keep me thinking and guessing throughout the film
not one of the most believable scripts but some interesting actors help it move along. could've been so much better. almost too much drama. swamped in the stuff
