When I first about this film I was thinking 'oh god' more crapola, but again I have been surprised. With so many versions to compete against there is a pretty high bar to hurdle but it hurdles it well. The effects are really nice and colourful, much alike the 60's version, there ...( read more)are some dodgy moments of bluescreen but generally it looks like a nice cross between 'Indy' and 'Pirates'. The dangers faced are corny and predictable including dinosaurs and man eating plants but the appeal of Fraser and the lighthearted enjoyment factor win through. You actually want Fraser to survive cos he does really seem like a nice guy.
Its a really fun film in 2D and I can imagine in 3D its even better, with some great scenes in there which really give you that boys own, gritty, classic adventure feel that may be really silly but somehow just works, better than 'The Mummy' for me as its not taken as seriously.
Watch out for the sea crossing and fish eating Nessie style monsters, a good abyss crossing on floating rocks and the Indy mine cart rip of haha
    :) fun.

Cheesy good fun for the family, but seeing in 3-D is essential. Part thrill ride, part video game, part virtual reality, it is a lively and satisfying update of a good old-fashioned Saturday afternoon serial adventure saga. Icelandic actress Anita Briem is a plus.

While the film itself may not be more than decent popcorn entertainment, having little more to do with the classic Jules Verne story than the basic idea, it is the IMAX experience that is so much fun and should be rated here. The film lacks the atmosphere and charm of the old Jam...( read more)es Mason adaption of the book, Brendan Fraser has to do little more than channel his Mummy performances here. That said, it is still action packed, fast, exciting and makes perfect use of the 3D-IMAX experience of animals, juices and obstacles coming at the audience. The result makes it hard not to leave the movie theater with a broad smile. 3D may be the future of cinema, after all.

I love films that were made for no other reason than the one of simply entertaining crowds. It was silly, shallow, pointless but fun nonetheless. I won't even bother talking about the direction or the performances because it is highly irrelevant. For what it is, it's a great film...( read more) -God knows we've seen awful childish sci-fi films. And seeing it in the 3D mode, made it all the better! A really bad movie but surely enough exciting and not at all tiring!

I didn't expect much out of this movie but I quite enjoyed it. Too bad it was short, an extra 15 minutes might have made a huge difference instead of rushing from set piece to set piece. Very good effort overall though.

I have seen half of it.

A different take on the story in that Verne was an actual person in this reality, but instead of his book being a work of fiction, it described an actual journey. The scientist, after years of continuing his missing brother's research, believes he has found an entrance through Ic...( read more)elandic volcano chutes. The guide is a hot local female, instead of the burly man in the original. While this sure did have more thrills, I couldnt really call this one than any previous take on the story (including that odd 70s Spanish version).
