Joy Division Reviews and Ratings

i ended up really enjoying this; very candid interviews and recounts, especially with peter hook & tony wilson. the live footage is also great and the special features contain a many more short interview segments, as well as the live promotional taping of "t

fans of joy division, this is well worth buying and compliments perfectly corbijn's (who appears briefly in this documentary) control.

Joy Division is a documentary on the famous British band of the same name. It's a great accompaniment to the film CONTROL. Joy Division was reaching new found success and even had a hit song, when their lead singer, Ian Curtis suddenly committed suicide on the eve of their first ...( read more)U.S. tour. The surviving members look back on their beginnings, their success, and share their memories of Curtis. After the death of their lead singer, the members continued to make music as "New Order", where they continued much success. This is a fantastic documentary and I highly recommend it, as well as the film CONTROL.

Ian Curtis. 13 May. 1980. I fall, if we could fall together.

Unlike the also great CONTROL, this film focus more on the music and the creative process of the band and the Manchester scene. More than a portrayal of a band and its tragic demise, a portrait of an age.

Less accessible to newcomers to Joy Division than the estimable 'Control' but a treasure for fans with copious extras.

I loved this documentary. It really reminded me of how great Joy Division's music is and it was interesting to hear the bandmates talk about Ian Curtis' death...something I had never heard before and was rather moving because it STILL affects them all these years later.

A remarkably well made documentary about the band Joy Division, the city of Manchester and the music scene the sprung from there in the late 70's and which continues to be a vital source of talent and influence in the music industry today.

While I enjoyed this film immensely....( read more)..I can't say that it is for everyone.

But if you have any interest in the bands Warsaw, Joy Division or New Order...or if you are a fan of the British music scene in general, you will no doubt find this a wonderful retrospective of not just an amazing band...but of an incredibly interesting and complex city as well.

A great documentary that acts as an audio/visual history lesson and a great double feature to Anton Corbijn's "Control" [the biopic on Ian Curtis]. It was really fascinating to hear the story told by the guys [and then some]. And I must add, there is sort of a nerdy charm to Step...( read more)hen Morris... and Hooky often comes across as kind of a tool...

Without doubt one of the best music documentaries in the history of ever.
I got the feeling it must've been difficult to get the interviewees to stop talking once they started.

I think I heard some songs I haven't heard before. Really insightful. Joy Division is interviewed!

"Sooner or later, someone was gonna want to say more than fuck you, someone was really gonna say I'm fucked. And it was Joy Division who was the first band to do that, to use the energy and simplicity of punk to express more complex emotions."
